Faculty of Oral & Dental Medicine
Activity – Fourth Year Dental Students’ Second Trip outside MIU
The Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee in collaboration with the Oral Medicine Department at the Faculty of Oral & Dental Medicine organized a visit to El-Shorouk Language School at El-Shorouk City, as part of a plan to allow students’ apply the knowledge they have gained in the Oral Medicine course to serve the community outside MIU.
The trip was on Thursday, November 26th, 2015. A total of 40 male students (first preparatory year) participated in this event.
Posters, videos and PowerPoint presentations were prepared by a group of students. The activities included an awareness session to enhance students’ oral hygiene knowledge and practices. The session included presentations, videos, posters, brochures as well as live sessions about tooth brushing techniques. Educational material and packs of tooth- pastes and tooth brushes were distributed to all students and teachers.
Intra- as well as extra-oral examination was performed. Each participant received a card indicating his oral condition and treatment needs (if any).
Before starting the event, a questionnaire was administered to the school’s students, teachers, and the administrative staff to determine their dental health care needs.
At the end of the session, another questionnaire administered to all participants to evaluate the provided program and measure visit satisfaction.
A third questionnaire was administered to MIU participants to evaluate the visit.
All the activities were documented through photography.
The event was beneficial to MIU students who were exposed to the outside community and given the chance to apply what they have learned in MIU Dental Clinics in a different environment.
