Research support unit

The Research Support Unit is responsible for leading and managing all activities related to the support and development of young researchers and postgraduate students in the dental school.

This role involves providing one-on-one guidance, conducting workshops, and contributing to the research training platform. It ensures that researchers receive comprehensive support in key areas such as database searches, protocol writing, ethical considerations, manuscript preparation, journal selection, plagiarism checks, and collaboration with the English department for language editing.

• Provide one-on-one guidance to young researchers on effective search techniques across various academic databases.
• Provide one-on-one guidance to young researchers on how to find relevant literature for their research topics.
• Offer detailed guidance on how to write research protocols, including structuring, formatting, and necessary content.
• Review and provide feedback on research protocols submitted by young researchers.
• Conduct one-on-one sessions on the ethical aspects of conducting research, including obtaining approvals and informed consent.
• Guide researchers on how to convert their thesis into a manuscript ready for publication.
• Assist in identifying appropriate journals for manuscript submission based on the topic and scope of the research.
• Provide support in preparing manuscripts for submission, including formatting and adherence to journal guidelines.
• Oversee the use of Ithenticate software for plagiarism checks, ensuring all documents meet the required originality standards.
• Offer training on how to prepare documents for plagiarism checks, including citation practices and paraphrasing techniques.
• Provide one-on-one assistance for researchers preparing their work for submission.
• Guide researchers through the available facilities within the faculty, helping them utilize resources effectively for their work.
• Coordinate with the English department to provide language editing and proofreading services for research manuscripts and providing a certificate for editing when needed.
• Contribute to the content and resources to the research training platform, ensuring it is comprehensive and up-to-date.
