The Student Research Committee in the research unit plays an integral role in fostering research involvement and development among students.
The committee’s primary responsibilities revolve around promoting research opportunities, supporting student researchers, and facilitating their academic and professional growth.
- Keep students informed about available research opportunities within the unit, including open research assistant positions, and project collaborations.
- Share information about external research opportunities, such as conferences, workshops, and competitions.
- Actively encourage students to engage in research by organizing introductory sessions, seminars, and open days to showcase ongoing projects.
- Encouraging establishment of research teams where students are actively engaged.
- Pair students with faculty mentors who can provide research guidance, support, and feedback.
- Organize workshops on research skills, such as literature review, data analysis, scientific writing, and presentation techniques.
- Provide training on using research tools, software, and methodologies relevant to the field of study.
- Organize annual or bi-annual research symposiums where students can present their work to peers, faculty, and invited guests. A ‘Best Research Paper’ award can be presented.
- Establish and run journal clubs where students can discuss recent research papers, practice critical thinking, and stay updated on the latest developments in their field.
- Assist students in preparing their research for publication in academic journals, providing editorial support and guidance on the submission process.
- Educate students on the ethical considerations and compliance requirements related to research, particularly those specific to dental or medical research.
