The Faculty of Al Alsun & Mass Communication Organizes Community Service Seminar on “The Role of Advertising Campaigns in Raising Awareness of Community Issues”

The Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication Community Service Committee organized a seminar on “The role of advertising campaigns in raising awareness of community issues” on December 19, 2022, conducted by Professor Alyaa Treify, Professor of Advertising in the Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication at Misr International University. 

Professor Treify discussed the importance of public service announcements in raising public awareness and changing attitudes towards social issues. She also highlighted the main problems facing the design of an efficient public service announcement. Professor Treify then clarified the role of corporate social responsibility systems in providing social values through various media channels and platforms to urge citizens to adhere to good morals. She finally showcased several videos of the “Beautify with Morals” and “Paralympic Games” awareness campaigns, as well as anti-bullying and harassment awareness campaigns and debated their pros and cons with the attendees.

Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication Community Service Sector Organizes the First Annual Special Needs Exhibition for Handicrafts

In line with the celebration of the International Day of People with Disabilities, the Community Service and Environment Development Sector of the Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication held the First Annual Special Needs Handicrafts Exhibition on Wednesday, December 7, 2022.

Three associations for persons with special needs showcased their products: The Right to Live Association, Dar El-Sondons for Orphans with Special Needs, and Friends of Bright Tomorrow Association for Special Needs. The displayed products were made by the special needs trainees in the three associations and included wickerwork, ceramics, carpets, printed textiles, handmade bags, embroidered furnishings, and perfumes.

The aim of the exhibition was to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in the Egyptian society. To serve the same purpose, the Community Service and Environment Development sector also presented the Friends of Bright Tomorrow Association for Special Needs with canvas, oil and gouache colors, Canson paper and Duku markers to help them participate in the ninth international art festival entitled “My Country, How Beautiful it is,” which will be held at the Egyptian Opera House from February 9-14, 2023.

Al-Alsun Students’ Suبtitling Projects

Al-Alsun Department held the jury of the Translation for Media Use I (Suبtitling) course on Monday Jan. 9th 2023. Students presented the subtitled movies or TV shows they worked on for the final project.

During the jury, the students discussed their subtitling journey with a committee of professors, mentioning the challenges they faced, their translation choices and techniques, along with what they learnt from the whole experience. The professors commended their work and added some insightful remarks to enrich the students’ subtitling skills.

TEFL students observe MIU lectures

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) students have moved a step forward from observing school classes to MIU university lectures during the Fall 2022 semester.

The students are offered the opportunity to upscale their teaching skills by visiting and observing English language classes on MIU campus.  Al-Alsun Department thus fulfills the faculty mission of providing hands-on experience for its students, preparing them for a highly competitive market.

The Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication Organizes Workshop on Teaching with Multimedia

The Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication organized a workshop on “Teaching with Multimedia” on December 12, 2022.  The workshop, led by Dr. Mohamed Yehia, educational technology expert, was attended by Faculty teaching staff and teaching assistants.  The workshop explored a number of topics, including educational content, learning environments, instructional design models, and content quality standards.

Al Alsun Students Visit Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Art Museum!

Al Alsun students went on a field trip to Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil museum in Dokki on December 7 and 8, 2022.  This recently renovated museum houses an  impressive collection of  paintings by Paul Gauguin, Auguste Renoir, Claude Monet, Johan Jongkind and Charles Francois Daubigny.  The museum also exhibits a valuable collection of vases made in France, China, Japan and Iran, and a big collection of elaborately-made miniature works of art by Chinese artists. 

The trip was part of the ENG 404 “Literature and the Visual Arts” course, which explores how literature and the visual arts inform one another and challenge the reading/viewing experience.  The purpose of the visit was to engage students in the experience of viewing art and to empower them to make meaningful connections to the course concepts.   The group was accompanied by the course instructors, Dr. Laila Galal and Dr. Mona Helmy.   

Al Alsun Department Organizes Field Trip to the ‘Friends of Bright Tomorrow’ Special Needs School

On Tuesday the 6th of December 2022, the Department of Al-Alsun organized a field trip visit to the ‘Friends of Bright Tomorrow – Al Ghad Al Moshreq’ Special Needs School as part of the requirements of the ENG 427 (Topics in Linguistics) course. The visit serves the purpose of providing ENG 427 students with practical training to interact with and teach special needs learners. It also represents an attempt to reduce inequality within our community by promoting the social inclusion of persons with disabilities, in accordance with the UN 2030 agenda of sustainable development goals.

During the visit, Al-Alsun students were introduced to the various departments in the school and got acquainted with the teaching practices used with the special needs learners. They also had the opportunity to donate 50 different activities and games that they had previously designed for special needs learners as part of their course requirements. The students of Al-Alsun department showed great enthusiasm during the visit and had the opportunity to share the activities they designed with the special needs learners. At the end of the visit, the students expressed feelings of self-fulfillment and satisfaction as a result of helping the special needs community, and many of them showed interest in pursuing a future career in special needs education and occupational therapy. New Generation School conducts internship orientation at MIU

New Generation Elementary and Kindergarten School Principals gave an orientation session to fourth year Al-Alsun students on Monday 5th of December, announcing their summer internship program.

Elementary School Principal Mona Asaad and Kindergarten Principal Rana Mardiny conducted the orientation to prepare fresh graduates who aspire to work at international schools. The session provided students with an overview regarding the training in addition to some insights on the influence and benefits of a teaching career.

Asaad and Mardiny expressed their enthusiasm for enroll aspiring teachers from MIU in their training program.   Students with outstanding performance in the program would immediately secure a job at New Generation School.

The Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication Organizes Guest Lecture by Digital Communication Expert

The Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication hosted the online marketing and digital communication expert, Mr. Fady Ramzy, on Monday, November 21, 2022 to give a lecture about various personal branding and promotional techniques.

The main purpose of the event was to serve Mass Communication students and provide them with insights into the current trends of digital marketing.  Ramzy discussed current and upcoming social media trends as well as how to maintain the reputation of an organization. 

Ramzy has more than 25 years of experience in the field of Integrated Marketing Communication. He also has regular appearances on various known media outlets such as BBC, Reuters and Sky News.

Al-Alsun students take first steps into their teaching career

New Generation School (NG) and Egyptian Language School (ELS) opened their doors to MIU Al-Alsun students to observe classes and assist teachers of different stages.

Students got the chance to implement pre-studied methods of English language teaching and classroom management skills.
