Visit to SOS Orphanage House

On Tuesday April 12, 2022, the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee organized a trip for interns and Faculty members to visit SOS Orphanage house.

The purpose of the trip was to raise the awareness of caregivers, employees, and children at the orphanage regarding protection from COVID-19 and means of preventing transmission of the infection to others. The visit also aimed to raise dental health awareness to help improve oral health care of the children.

Interns presented a live demonstration on dental casts, simulating the proper technique for toothbrushing and means of correcting faulty ones. They were then allowed to play with the children and take photos until the end of the visit.

Faculty members offered children, employees, and caregivers free transportation from and to the orphanage, to visit MIU Dental Clinic Complex and receive the required dental care, free of charge.

Toothpastes and toothbrushes were given as gifts to the children. Alcohol bottles, masks and food supplies were donated to the orphanage.

Two questionnaires were distributed. The first was among employees and caregivers to determine their health care needs as well as measure their satisfaction with the visit. The second was given to interns and staff members to evaluate the visit.

A Visit to Modern Educational School (MES)

On Thursday 11th of May 2023, the Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee, Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, organized a field trip for a group of interns and staff members from Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics departments as well as a group from the World Dental Federation (FDI) to Modern Educational School (MES).

The purpose of the visit was to raise the awareness of MES teachers and students regarding dental health. As such, awareness sessions were given by the lecturers and interns, showing the importance of tooth brushing and the proper techniques for oral hygiene. Then, the interns examined all middle school students and teachers and gave each a diagnostic card while the FDI team distributed hundred toothbrushes and toothpastes among them.

Questionnaires were distributed to the teachers to determine their dental health needs and measure their satisfaction with the visit. Another questionnaire was distributed to the interns and staff members participating to evaluate the visit and its outcome.

تم عمل زيارة ميدانية لأطباء الامتياز من كلية طب الفم والأسنان إلى ” إدارة المساحة بالهيئة الهندسية للقوات المسلحة” بالخليفة المأمون يوم الاثنين بتاريخ 3 من أبريل 2023 بصحبة أعضاء من رئاسة الجمهورية وإشراف على أطباء الامتياز من أعضاء هيئة التدريس والهيئة المعاونة، وتم التحرك من وإلى الجامعة بعدد (2) أتوبيس من الجامعة وبمصاحبة (2) فرد أمن بالإضافة إلى مصور من إدارة التصوير والتوثيق.

زيارة ميدانية إلى “الشركة الوطنية للزراعات المحمية”

تم عمل زيارة ميدانية لأطباء الامتياز من كلية طب الفم والأسنان إلى “الشركة الوطنية للزراعات المحمية” بالعاشر من رمضان يوم الأربعاء بتاريخ 29 من مارس 2023 بصحبة أعضاء من رئاسة الجمهورية وإشراف على أطباء الامتياز من أعضاء هيئة التدريس والهيئة المعاونة من الكلية، وتمت الانتقالات بأتوبيس من الجامعة وبمصاحبة فرد أمن بالإضافة إلى مصور من إدارة التصوير و التوثيق.

MIU Visits Lamset Hanan (Second Branch) Elderly Home Care

The Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee, Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, organized a field trip to Lamset Hanan Home Care (second branch) in El Shorouk City on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. Staff members from the Faculty joined the trip.

The purpose of the visit was to raise awareness about dental health among the residents, employees, and caregivers of the elderly home. During the visit, a professor from the Oral Medicine and Diagnosis Department gave a live demonstration using toothbrushes and dental casts to show the residents the proper technique for brushing their teeth. Free transportation from and back to the elderly home care was also offered.

The committee members answered all questions raised by the residents about oral and dental health. They also took photos with them and distributed toothbrushes, toothpastes, shawls and scarves.

Questionnaires were distributed to the elderly home employees and caregivers to determine their dental health needs and measure their satisfaction with the visit. Another questionnaire was distributed to the committee members and staff participating to evaluate the visit and its outcome.

A Visit to El Safa Elderly Home Care

The Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee, Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, organized a field trip to El Safa Elderly Home Care on Saturday 4th of March 2023. A group of 4th year students and staff members from the Faculty joined the trip.

During the visit, the students presented a live demonstration using toothbrushes and simulating dental casts to show the residents the proper technique for tooth brushing. The students examined all the residents, employees, and the caregivers, both males and females. Each one was individually given a diagnostic card with the oral/ dental problem found to facilitate their treatment later at the MIU Dental Clinics Complex. Free transportation from and back to the elderly home care was offered.

Students chatted with the elders and took photos with them the whole visit, allowing them to ask all the questions regarding oral and dental health. Sixty-five toothbrushes and toothpastes were distributed to the residents and caregivers.

Visit to Elhamd Orphanage

A visit to Elhamd Orphanage was organized by the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee on Tuesday March 29th, 2022. . The purpose of the visit in which a number of syudents, interns and faculty members participated was to raise the awareness of caregivers, employees, and residents regarding protection from COVID-19 and means by which to prevent transmission of the infection to others as well as raise their dental health awareness to help improve the oral health care of the children.

Interns presented a live demonstration on dental casts, simulating the proper technique for toothbrushing and means of correcting faulty ones. They were then allowed to play with the children and take photos until the end of the visit.

The faculty invited the employees, caregivers and children to visit MIU Dental Clinic Complex to receive the required dental care free of charge, including free transportation to and from the orphanage. Questionnaires were distributed to determine their dental health needs.

Toothpastes and toothbrushes were given as gifts to the children. Alcohol bottles, masks, 10 soft blankets and food were given to the orphanage as giveaways.

A Visit to Wanas Elderly Home

The Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee, Faculty of Dentistry, in cooperation with the Internship Administration Office and the support of University Council, organized a visit to Wanas Elderly Home on Tuesday 22nd of March 2022.

The purpose of the visit was to raise the employees’ and the residents’ awareness regarding COVID-19 virus, to promote personal protection from the virus and prevent transmission of infection to others. The visit also aimed at raising the awareness about the importance of dental health and how to improve oral health care.

During the visit, interns demonstrated proper brushing techniques using simulating dental casts and toothbrushes. MIU committee members invited the residents and employees of the elderly home to visit MIU Dental Clinics Complex to receive the any needed dental care, free of charge, including free transportation by MIU buses to and from MIU. The home’s administration was contacted prior to the visit to enquire about the residents’ needs, which were all purchased and presented to the employees and residents during the visit.

By the end of the visit, questionnaires were distributed to the employees to rate their satisfaction with the visit in terms of the scientific content, giveaways, and the overall impact of the visit. Packs of toothpastes, toothbrushes, alcohol and face masks were also distributed to the residents.

A Visit to Fouad Habib Elderly Home

The Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee, Faculty of Dentistry, in cooperation with the Internship Administration Office and the support of University Council, organized a visit to Fouad Habib Elderly Home on Tuesday 22nd of March 2022.

The purpose of the visit was to raise the employees’ and the residents’ awareness of COVID-19 virus, to promote personal protection from the virus and to prevent transmission of infection to others. The visit also aimed at raising the awareness about the importance of dental health and how to improve oral health care.

During the visit, interns demonstrated proper brushing techniques using simulating dental casts and toothbrushes. MIU committee members invited the residents and employees of the elderly home to visit MIU Dental Clinics Complex to receive the any needed dental care, free of charge, along with transportation by MIU buses to and from the elderly home. The home’s administration was contacted prior to the visit enquire avout the residents’ needs. These included two microwaves which were purchased and presented to the employees and residents during the visit.

By the end of the visit, questionnaires were distributed to the employees of the elderly home to rate their satisfaction with the visit in terms of the scientific content, giveaways, and the overall impact of the visit. Packs of toothpastes, toothbrushes, alcohol, and face masks were also distributed to the residents.

A Visit to Al Safa elderly home care

In collaboration with the university council, the Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee at the Faculty of Dentistry arranged a trip on January 25, 2022 to Al Safa elderly home care

The purpose of the visit was to raise the awareness of the employees and the elderly residents regarding COVID-19 virus to promote means of personal protection  and of   prevention of transmission of infection to others. The visit also aimed to raise dental health awareness  through a detailed presentation using visual aids. The session also covered the proper tooth brushing technique. Visual aids were included using a simplified PowerPoint presentation. MIU committee staff invited the employees and residents of the care home to visit MIU Dental Clinics Complex to receive the required dental care free of charge. In addition, they were offered transportation to and from the Home by MIU buses to receive the treatment needed. Al Safa elderly home administration had been contacted prior to the visit to determine any further needs the home could require. All the needs demanded by the home were purchased and given during the visit to the employees and residents, including personal blankets and food supplies.

By the end of the visit, questionnaires were distributed on the employees of the elderly home to rank their satisfaction with the visit in terms of the scientific content, giveaways and further needs. Educational materials together with packs of toothpastes, tooth brushes, alcohol and face masks were distributed on both the employees and the elderly residents.
