Drug Information Center
Mission of the DIC
The mission of MIU Drug Information Center is the provision of competitive, evidence-based, relevant and unbiased drug information services through answering drug-related questions and publicizing periodical drug information newsletters. The objective of these collaborative pharmacy practices is to ensure high-quality patient care ultimately benefiting pharmacists, healthcare professionals and affiliated institutions to achieve optimal patient outcomes. In addition, the DIC has a strong academic component designed to serve as a training center and experiential training site, enabling students to gain experience in provision of drug information and resources and acquire the skills necessary for research, interpretation of results and decision making within problem solving activities.
Objectives of the DIC
The trained professional team of the DIC and its latest drug information database and reference books, make the DIC an invaluable resource that meets the following objectives:-
- Provision of specific comprehensive drug information upon request from faculty, healthcare providers, and consumers from the general public in a timely manner, based on a complete analysis of available evidence.
- Maintenance of resources to provide the most current and accurate information to inquirers.
- Publishing a drug information newsletter.
- Educating pharmacy students, and professionals about resources and medical literature analysis and enhancing the skill of accurately communicating response (both verbally and in-writting).

- The Drug Information Newsletter
The Drug Information Newsletter is issued by the professional team of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Pharmacy. This newsletter aims to publicize up-to-date information, resources and frequently asked questions related to providing pharmacy services that have an impact on the patient’s quality of care in addition to practices serving physicians, dentists and pharmacists throughout the MIU community and affiliated health care providers. One of the main goals of this publication is to send out updates on health care drug related issues, recently reported by the FDA and similar credible organizations, as well as report on safety issues of drugs and medical products in the market.
