IHEPC in YLF final competition

MIU Pharmacy students who are members of the International Hepatitis Club (IHEPC) were chosen to go through to the finals of Leaders League competition hosted by Youth Leader Foundation, YLF, whose main concern is supporting student activities all over Egypt. The IHEPC will compete in the medical league. 

The Faculty of Pharmacy takes pride in its young pharmacists who will be representing MIU in this significant marathon.

27th Dubai International Pharmaceutical and Technologies Conference and Exhibition – DUPHAT

For the 7th time the Faculty of Pharmacy, Misr International University participated in the 27th Dubai International Pharmaceutical and Technologies Conference & Exhibition (DUPHAT) from 20 to 22 February 2022 which was held in Dubai. The Faculty of Pharmacy is always keen to annually engage its students in such an experience to enhance their competencies and keep them updated with latest news and insights in the pharmacy profession. Twenty-eight students represented the faculty with seven posters under the supervision of the faculty members from different departments to address different pharmacy domains.  Our student gained a lot of skills from the experience of publicly presenting their work and interacting with other students as well as academics and professionals.

Our students for the 7th time succeeded in winning distinguished awards after being judged by a panel of eminent international evaluators in the field of pharmacy. A multidisciplinary poster entitled “Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics evaluation of the antidiabetic activity of plant waste extract” demonstrating the teamwork of three departments: pharmaceutical technology, pharmacognosy, and pharmaceutical chemistry won the First Place Outstanding Poster Award. The winning poster was under the supervision of Dr. Manal Shaffek, Dr. Hany Mahmoued, Dr. Rasha Mahmoued, Dr. Lamiaa Bazan, Dr. Rania Farouk and Dr. Noha Ibrahim.

مسابقة أفضل فنى معمل وأفضل عامل في كلية الصيدلة

تحت رعاية السيد الاستاذ الدكتور/ احمد عماد الجندى عميد كلية الصيدلة وإشراف السيد/ محمود عبدالجيد مدير إدارة السلامة والصحة المهنية بالجامعة تم تنظيم مسابقة بين فنيي المعامل والعاملين بجميع الاقسام العلمية بالكلية لاختيار أفضل فنى معمل وأفضل عامل للفصل الدراسى الاول (خريف 2021).
تهدف هذه المسابقة الى منح الموظفين مرونة فى العمل عبر اعطائهم الحرية فى التفكير والتنفيذ واختيار طرق انجاز المهام مما ينمي الإحساس بالمسؤولية لديهم ويضمن تحقيق أهداف الكلية.
تشكلت لجنة من السادة أعضاء هيئة التدريس لوضع آليات المسابقة وتم اخطار الفنيين المشاركين بضرورة اجتياز العديد من الاختبارات العملية الخاصة بالأقسام العلمية التى ينتمون اليها بالإضافة الى اختبارات الصحة والسلامة المهنية.
وقد شارك العاملون بالكلية بشكل مباشر في دعم الفنيين فى تلك المسابقة مما زرع روح الفريق ونتج عنه تفاعلا أكثر بين العاملين بالكلية مما ساهم فى خلق بيئة إيجابية تشجع الجميع على التعاون والتواصل وبناء روح العمل الجماعي. وخلال فعاليات الحفل الختامي تم تكريم الفائزين من الفنيين بجوائز مالية بالاضافة الى شهادات تقدير.
يأتي ذلك في ضوء الإستراتيجية العامة للكلية والتوجه نحو تنمية الموارد البشرية من خلال تزويد الفنيين والعاملين بالمهارات والمعرفة التي تطور قدراتهم وتؤهلهم للنمو في مكان العمل.

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Emad El-Gendy, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, and the supervision of Mr. Mahmoud Abd, Director of Occupational Safety and Health Department at MIU, a competition was organized to choose the best lab technician and the best worker in the Faculty of Pharmacy for the first semester (Fall 2021).
The competition aims to encourage freedom of thinking, and develop the sense of responsibility among the workers by allowing them flexibility to accomplish tasks in their own way.
A committee of the faculty members was formed to set the competition mechanisms. The participating technicians were notified that they would be challenged to pass a number of practical tests related to the scientific departments to which they belong, in addition to some occupational health and safety tests.
The Faculty staff showed their support to the technicians and workers, fostering the team spirit and creating a positive environment that encourages everyone to effectively cooperate and communicate. During the closing ceremony, the winning technicians received financial awards and certificates of appreciation.
This comes in light of the Faculty’s overall strategy to develop its human resources by providing technicians and workers with the skills and knowledge that qualify them to grow in the workplace.

Egyptian Ambulance Authority Training

In cooperation with the Egyptian Ambulance Authority, the Faculty of Pharmacy organized a training workshop on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at MIU. The workshop introduced first aid education and highlighted the importance of learning some basic medical care for injured persons.

This medical support will help gain time until reaching specialized teams. Pharmacy students, mainly fifth-year students, actively participated in demonstrating the first aid basic skills that they had acquired during their studies. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Mohamed El-Anany, Director of Training at the Egyptian Ambulance Authority, who shed light on the definition of first aid, basic skills, and knowledge, as well as the extent of possible intervention in various emergencies. 

The workshop also discussed cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, choking, and change in the degree of consciousness as well as dealing with cases of fractures, wounds and bleeding. Dr. El-Anany clarified the importance of not intervening in emergency cases if you lack the necessary information or ability. He explained that acquiring the necessary skills could help the injured and prevent complications that pose a threat to their life.

Faculty of Pharmacy Organizes Workshop to Develop Administrative Capabilities

MIU Faculty of Pharmacy organized a workshop titled “Leadership in Academia” to develop the administrative capabilities of the faculty members on Monday, January 24, 2022, from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm, room OOB.

The workshop was organized in coordination with the Quality and Accreditation Unit at the Faculty and under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Emad El-Gendy, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy. It was given by Dr. Haymen Zein, Assistant Professor in the Department of Astronomy, Faculty of Science, Cairo University, and a member of the Administrative Committee of the Center for Capacity Development of Faculty Members at Cairo University.

Deans of the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine participated in the workshop, which was also attended by the vice deans, heads of departments and faculty members of both faculties.

The workshop covered the definition and types of leadership, qualities of leaders, and strategies for successful leadership in complex adaptation situations. The participants discussed a number of case scenarios for general and health crises to find out the most effective leadership strategies to deal with them.

Blood Donation Campaign

Within the framework of the University’s active role in community service, and in cooperation with the Egyptian Red Crescent represented by the Central Blood Bank, the Faculty of Pharmacy participated in the annual on-campus blood donation campaign. Pharmacy students in general and in particular DIMAS members took part in this 2-day campaign which was organized on January 11 and 12, 2022, from 10 am to 3 pm next to the University Mosque. The campaign aims to spread awareness about the importance of donating blood as a social responsibility and a noble humanitarian act that can save the lives of thousands through  ensuring that safe blood of different types will always be accessible to patients in need.

Before the start of the campaign, Pharmacy students held small-scale seminars to spark attention to the importance of donating blood. A fully equipped bloodmobile with sufficient beds was provided by the Central Blood Bank in coordination with the University to facilitate the donation drive, which was under the supervision of a team of doctors from the Central Blood Bank.

Prior to donating blood, a series of health check-ups, including blood pressure and hemoglobin level measurements, are performed to make sure donors are in good health. In addition, the donors were informed that their blood will be screened for Hepatitis C, and the results will be sent to them in sealed envelopes bearing the name of each donor. A few students were not eligible to donate and were turned down.

Faculty of Pharmacy Signs Partnership with AIPC

In alignment with the goals of improving education quality and community engagement as well as contributing to pharmacy education in other Arab countries, MIU Faculty of Pharmacy announces its academic partnership with the Arab Association of Pharmacy Progress (AAPP) in organizing the sixth annual Arab International Pharmacy Conference (AIPC 2022) titled “Technology-based Healthcare Transformation”.

The conference covers various areas of expertise related to Pharmacy career pathways, beginning with pharmacy education and quality assurance and culminating in professional practice. The conference will be held from March 19- 20, 2022 in Hilton Heliopolis, Cairo – Egypt.

Honoring Athletes of Determination

MIU Faculty of Pharmacy participated in a ceremony to honor a number of Egyptian champions with special needs on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at 1:00 pm in the Main Hall (OOA).

A large number of Egyptian athletes of determination who won local and international championships attended this celebration.

The event is intended to show support for those heroes, and to encourage them to achieve further success and raise Egypt’s name high in international tournaments.  

During the ceremony, the participating champions gave inspiring speeches about their experiences and the challenges they face, infusing positive vibes among all the attendees. They were later awarded certificates of appreciation by Professor Ahmed Emad, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Pharmacy Student from International Hepatitis Club (IHEPC) participation in the Youth Leaders Foundation (YLF) competition

For the third year in a row, IHEPC is participating in the biggest competition held for student activities all over Egypt hosted by Youth Leaders Foundation, YLF, whose main concern is supporting the youths’ massive dreams and ideas to materialize.
IHEPC competes in the medical league and they decided to go beyond the one-day convoys they hold and go for a more comprehensive project by providing people in need with radical solutions for a certain medical problem that is widely spread in most under-privileged places.
During the latest phase of three consequent ones, the President Nayera ElMallah, Vice President Hanya Hesham and OC head Mariam ElSawy presented their project in front of a group of elite judges hoping to reach the only phase remaining that will decide what student activities will be the winners.
Proudly, Nayera and Hanya are MIU Pharmacy students; in addition, they were pleased to meet Dr. Ahmed Hossam, a Dentistry MIU graduate who was one of the judges and Amira Thabet a Pharmacy MIU graduate who works at YLF. Knowing that Dr. Amira Thabet is one of YLF judges also gives them much pride.

U Pharma Company Agreement

As the Faculty of Pharmacy, Misr International University aims to have a pioneering role in education, by integrating academic study and cooperation with pharmaceutical companies and factories, to qualify students and graduates to join the job market, Prof. Sami Emara, Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, representing Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Ahmed Emad El-Gendy signed a Protocol for Cooperation between the Faculty of Pharmacy and El-Motahedon Pharma Company for the Manufacturing of Medicines and Medical Appliances (U Pharma), represented by Prof. Ahmed Laila, Managing Director of the company. El-Motahedon Pharma is a leading company in the manufacturing of intravenous solutions in Egypt.
