Good Manufacturing Practice workshop

Faculty of Pharmacy was honored to have Doctor Ola Abdel Qader who is quality and compliance consultant (SME technical pharmaceutical) on Wednesday 8th of November,2023. During that day, Dr. Ola gave an in-depth workshop to Faculty staff members including a group of professors, lecturers, assistant lecturers, and teaching assistants. The workshop was about all aspects of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) going through its importance, principles as well as the guidelines used to apply and audit GMP.

Sanofi’s Contribution to the Influenza Vaccine Session at the Faculty of Pharmacy, MIU

Sanofi, a leading pharmaceutical company, played a pivotal role in the Influenza Vaccine Session hosted by the Faculty of Pharmacy at MIU on the 23rd of October 2023. The session that was given by Dr. Amr El Desoky, Medical Head of Sanofi Egypt, provided valuable insights on the influenza virus and vaccine options. Faculty members and fourth-year Pharmacy students attended the session.

Simultaneously, the Sanofi team collaborated with DIMAS students, actively engaging in a campaign to promote their vaccine.

This collaborative effort aimed to raise awareness and enhance accessibility to effective influenza vaccination among students and staff.

World Pharmacist Day Celebration: Honoring Outstanding TAs at Misr International University

The Faculty of Pharmacy at Misr International University celebrated World Pharmacist Day (2023) by honoring dedicated Pharmacy Teaching Assistants (TAs). During the event, TAs who had excelled academically and those who had demonstrated excellence in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities were honored.

The Dean, Vice Deans, and staff members attended the ceremony. At the end of the event, the TAs received a certificate of appreciation from the Dean.

This event emphasized the vital role TAs play in educating future pharmacists.

د. محمد سرحان يلقي محاضرة عن أهمية التجفيف في تصنيع الأدوية

ألقى الدكتور محمد سرحان مدير البحث والتطوير في شركة المهن الطبية يوم الأربعاء الموافق 11 أكتوبر 2023 محاضرة عن أهمية التجفيف في تصنيع الأدوية في كلية الصيدلة بجامعة مصر الدولية. وتندرج هذه المحاضرة ضمن سلسلة من الأنشطة الدراسية لطلاب المرحلة الخامسة الملتحقين بمقرر التكنولوجيا الصيدلانية.

تناولت محاضرة الدكتور سرحان أهم التحديات المرتبطة بالتجفيف في تصنيع الأدوية وكيفية معالجتها، وقدمت تصورًا شاملًا عن المعدات المستخدمة في عملية التجفيف.

تعرف الطلاب من خلال هذه الجلسة التفاعلية على تطبيقات التكنولوجيا الصيدلانية العملية وأهميتها في صناعة الأدوية.

Dr. Sarhan Delivers a Lecture on Drying in Drug Manufacturing

On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, Dr. Mohamed Sarhan, R&D Director at Medical Union Pharmaceuticals (MUP), delivered an enlightening session at the Faculty of Pharmacy, MIU. This special event was a part of the curriculum activities for fifth-year pharmacy students enrolled in Pharmaceutical Technology course.

Dr. Sarhan’s lecture delved into the crucial topic of the significance of drying in drug manufacturing, addressing challenges associated with this step and providing comprehensive insights into the equipment employed in the drying process.

The engaging session offered students valuable real-world perspectives on pharmaceutical technology and its practical applications.

MIU’s Commitment to Interprofessional Education: I2C2 2023 Participation

We are excited to share that MIU has selected four students from the medical sector, including two from the Faculty of Pharmacy and two from the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, to compete in the 2023 International Interprofessional Case Competition (I2C2) hosted by Gulf Medical University in the UAE.

Interprofessional education (IPE) is a fundamental pedagogical approach that involve the engagement of different healthcare professions in an integrated learning environment to foster collaboration and improve health outcomes. Teams from diverse professions and prestigious universities from around the world are participating in the competition to provide the best treatment plan for a clinical case.

Misr International University has initiated its first steps towards adopting the IPE to medical sector students; thus, enhancing its graduates’ competencies as members of efficient healthcare teams to accomplish the faculties’ missions in optimizing patient care and promoting the health and well-being of the public.

In accordance with the Faculty mission to graduate competent and skilled pharmacy professionals, we aim to enhance the quality of experiential pharmacy education and align with the national transition towards PharmD programs in Egypt. With the recent introduction of an experiential year comprising six Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotations, we recognize the indispensable role of dedicated preceptors in leading profound learning experiences for our students during practice rotations.

The PPDP is a structured, comprehensive training program designed to empower preceptors with essential teaching skills and competencies.

مبادرة “رعاية صيدلانية خضراء آمنة ومستدامة”

في ٢ اكتوبر ٢٠٢٣، وفي إطار اتفاقية التعاون بين كلية الصيدلة جامعة مصر الدولية والجمعية العربية لتطوير مهنة الصيدلة، شاركت د منال ابو الخير من قسم الصيدلة الاكلينيكية بكلية الصيدلة كعضو في لجنة تحكيم المستشفيات المشاركة في مبادرة “رعاية صيدلانية خضراء آمنة ومستدامة” بقيادة الدكتور سامر الرفاعي رئيس الجمعية العربية لتطوير مهنة الصيدلة وتحت رعاية معالي الدكتور أحمد السبكي رئيس الهيئة العامة للرعاية الصحية.

وقد شارك في هذه المبادرة ٢٨ مستشفى حكومي وجامعي وخاص وأهلي في ١٣ محافظة. وفي احتفالية لإعلان نتائج المبادرة، تم تكريم ١٢ مستشفى، وهي المستشفيات الأكثر تميزًا.
وحصل على المراكز الثلاثة الأولى المتقدمة كل من مستشفى الرمد ببورسعيد، ومستشفى شرم الشيخ الدولي بجنوب سيناء، ومجمع الإسماعيلية الطبي بالإسماعيلية.


وتضمن الحفل أيضًا حلقتي نقاش الأولى بعنوان أمن المرضى والثانية بعنوان الصيدلية الخضراء لتقديم بعض النصائح والارشادات للحضور حول مفاهيم الرعاية الصيدلانية الخضراء، بما في ذلك الممارسات الصديقة للبيئة في جميع مراحلها بدءً من التصنيع ووصولًا إلى التخلص الآمن من النفايات الصيدلانية.


وقد شاركت د منال ابو الخير في حلقة النقاش الثانية بتقديم بعض التوصيات للحفاظ على استمرارية مشاريع الجودة المتعلقة بالسلامة الدوائية.


وقد شهدت المرحلة الأولى من هذه المبادرة انطلاقة قوية نحو التعريف بأهمية الممارسات الآمنة للصيدلة الخضراء تمهيدًا لتعميم المبادرة في مرحلتها الثانية تحت قيادة هيئة الرعاية الصحية بدعم رئيس الهيئة والفريق المعاون وبمشاركة العديد من الهيئات على المستويين المحلى والإقليمي.

Celebrating a Green Revolution in Pharmacy Practice

On October 2nd, 2023, as part of the collaboration agreement between the Faculty of Pharmacy, Misr International University and the Arab Association for Pharmacy Progress (AAPP),  Dr. Manal Abouelkheir, faculty member of MIU Clinical Pharmacy Department, participated as a member of the judging panel of the “Safe, Green, and Sustainable Pharmaceutical Care” initiative, under the auspices of Dr. Samer El-Refaie,  Chairman of the AAPP, and Dr. Ahmed Elsobky, Chairman of the Egyptian Healthcare Authority (EHA).

The first Egyptian Green Awards in Pharmacy Practise Competition (EGAPP) included 48 government, university, commercial, and public hospitals from across 13 governorates.

During the awarding ceremony, 12 hospitals were recognized for their outstanding performance. Al-Ramd Hospital in Port Said, Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital in South Sinai, and the Ismailia Medical Complex in Ismailia took the top three spots.

Two discussion panels were conducted during the awarding ceremony entitled “Patient Safety” and “Green and Zero Harm Pharmacy.” The discussion panels highlighted the principles of green pharmaceutical care, encompassing environmentally friendly practices throughout the entire pharmaceutical lifecycle, from manufacturing to the safe disposal of pharmaceutical waste.

Dr. Abouelkheir participated in the second discussion panel providing recommendations regarding the sustainability of medication safety and zero-harm pharmacy initiatives.

 “The aspirations of the Public Authority for Health Care go beyond national borders, as we aim to extend this initiative to Arab countries,” Dr. Ahmed Elsobky mentioned.

The remarkable achievements of the winning hospitals in this initiative provide a successful model for green healthcare in the coming phase at the local, regional, and international levels.

The Faculty of Pharmacy, MIU Partners with BioNat for BioNat-8 Conference

The Faculty of Pharmacy at Misr International University participated as an official sponsor and academic partner in the Eighth Euro-Mediterranean International Conference on Life Sciences, Pharmacy and Biomedicine (BioNat-8), which was held at the Princess Fatima Academy for Professional Medical Education in Cairo from 5-7 October 2023.

Prof. Dr. Sami Emara, Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr.  Wafaa Al-Tayeb, Professor at the Department of Microbiology, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Samah Saeed Abbas, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Faculty and General Coordinator of the Conference, gave three specialized scientific sessions during the conference. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rania Rahmo delivered the speech of the Faculty and screened a promotional video talking about the different departments of the Faculty in the presence of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Emad, Vice President for Student Affairs and Education.

 Faculty members as well as teaching assistants from the Faculty departments took part in the conference, whether by attending or presenting scientific posters or holding specialized sessions in line with the various topics of the conference. The scientific abstracts of these participations were published in the conference abstract booklet. The poster of Dr. Ghada Adel won first place in the competition for the best scientific poster, and the poster of Merna Roshdy won third place.
