17 Oct 2023On October 2nd, 2023, as part of the collaboration agreement between the Faculty of Pharmacy, Misr International University and the Arab Association for Pharmacy Progress (AAPP), Dr. Manal Abouelkheir, faculty member of MIU Clinical Pharmacy Department, participated as a member of the judging panel of the “Safe, Green, and Sustainable Pharmaceutical Care” initiative, under the auspices of Dr. Samer El-Refaie, Chairman of the AAPP, and Dr. Ahmed Elsobky, Chairman of the Egyptian Healthcare Authority (EHA).
The first Egyptian Green Awards in Pharmacy Practise Competition (EGAPP) included 48 government, university, commercial, and public hospitals from across 13 governorates.
During the awarding ceremony, 12 hospitals were recognized for their outstanding performance. Al-Ramd Hospital in Port Said, Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital in South Sinai, and the Ismailia Medical Complex in Ismailia took the top three spots.
Two discussion panels were conducted during the awarding ceremony entitled “Patient Safety” and “Green and Zero Harm Pharmacy.” The discussion panels highlighted the principles of green pharmaceutical care, encompassing environmentally friendly practices throughout the entire pharmaceutical lifecycle, from manufacturing to the safe disposal of pharmaceutical waste.
Dr. Abouelkheir participated in the second discussion panel providing recommendations regarding the sustainability of medication safety and zero-harm pharmacy initiatives.
“The aspirations of the Public Authority for Health Care go beyond national borders, as we aim to extend this initiative to Arab countries,” Dr. Ahmed Elsobky mentioned.
The remarkable achievements of the winning hospitals in this initiative provide a successful model for green healthcare in the coming phase at the local, regional, and international levels.
