GMU Seminar

Dr Samar Mowafy, assistant professor at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry department gave a talk on Tuesday, April 12th at the Master of Science in Drug Discovery and Development seminar series at Gulf Medical University (GMU). The seminar was attended by all faculty members and the students enrolled in the Master’s program, along with the department of pharmaceutical sciences members.

In the seminar titled “Chimeric kinase HDAC inhibitors: a challenging approach to combat cancer”, Dr Mowafy discussed the development of several dual kinase and HDAC inhibitors as one of the approaches to the treatment of various cancer types where both kinases and HDACs are overexpressed. Dr. Samar explained the usefulness of using such chimeric inhibitors and the latest developments in this field. In addition, she explained the synthesis and biological investigations performed for the newly developed compounds at different molecular and cellular levels to test their ability to inhibit specific types of kinase enzymes and HDACs as well.

At the end of the seminar, Dr Samar answered questions about the different possible future directions for the work. Mutual research interest was found among some of the department members, which could lead to further collaborative research work on both sides.

YLF Celebration in MIU

The Faculty of Pharmacy organized a day for IHEPC members, who achieved the 1st place in YLF Leaders League, Egypt’s first and largest platform for student activities.

On Monday 28, March 2022, in front of Pharmacy Building, MIU professors, students and staff joined IHEPC members to celebrate their success. The Pharmacy Dean and professors gave speeches congratulating the students and encouraging them. Gifts and prizes were distributed. 

IHEPC won the first place at YLF Leaders League

The Faculty of Pharmacy proudly announces that pharmacy students, among other members of IHEPC, won first place in the medical section of the Leaders League competition held by the Youth Leaders Foundation (YLF), the first and biggest platform for student activities in Egypt.

A grand final ceremony was held on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, to celebrate the winners in the presence of a several high-profile guests. Among the guests was Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr Nivine ElQabbage, Minister of Social Solidarity; Ambassador Nabila Makram, Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Affairs Abroad; Ambassador Christian Berger, Head of the European Union delegation to Egypt and Dr Maya Morsy, President of the National Council for Women.

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar presented an honorary prize to IHEPC members at the end of the ceremony, praising the students’ efforts and expressing interest in and support for the club’s activities.

Al Salam Awareness Symposium

The Faculty of Pharmacy at Misr International University, in collaboration with the administration of Al Salam Medical District, organized a scientific symposium tackling “The Foundations of Proper Nutrition and Optimal Use of Medicine during the Holy Month of Ramadan”. The event was held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.

Dr. Manal Abu Al Kheir, Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, conducted the talk with the participation of Dr. Elham Ibrahim, Director of Al Salam Medical District, and Dr. Nancy Fouad, Director of Health Education.

Many workers in the medical sector in Al Salam Zone attended the symposium and expressed their appreciation for the joint efforts to raise the skills and awareness of health workers.”

Ramadan food bags

On April 1, 2022, MIU Pharmacy students travelled more than 140 kilometers to Salem Gad village, located in the Youssef Al-Sedik region of Al-Fayoum, to distribute 200 Ramadan food bags to the village people. They went with more than 100 students from other faculties who are also members of “ASCC for Help” and “Move Club”. This comes as part of the MIU goal of engaging the students in beneficial community service and social solidarity projects.

Hands-on Experiential Training for MIU Pharmacy Students at U Pharma

MIU Pharmacy senior students got the opportunity to gain valuable work experience by taking part in a two-week internship program during the mid-year break (5th -17th of February) at the Al-Motahedoon Pharma Company (U Pharma). The company specializes in the manufacturing of medicine, medical supplies, and cosmetics. Eight senior students completed a total of 80 hours of supervised hands-on training at several U pharma departments. They were given the opportunity to practice and apply different tests and SOPs related to the pharmaceutical industry under the supervision of U Pharma staff members.

Students received a certificate of completion for their internship at U Pharma on the last day of the program.

ASCC-Ceiling

On March 11th, 2022, more than 90 students from various MIU faculties, including Faculty of Pharmacy, representing ASCC (Awareness Service Charity Club) travelled over 140 km to Salem Gad village in Fayoum to:

– Distribute 7 ceiling fans.

– Help in building 7 roofs.

– Give awareness tips to villagers on how to lead a healthy life.

IHEPC in wonderland

The Faculty of Pharmacy students who are members of International Hepatitis C Club (IHEPC) participated in the arrangement of a trip to Wonderland Park on February 17th, 2022 for ElAmal Orphanage kids.

The day was full of joy and fun.  The kids enjoyed a variety of activities, games, homemade sandwiches, and beverages, all prepared by the students. Kids were also very excited by the puppet show presented especially for them.

Workshop on Modern Applications of Analytical Electrochemistry

In accordance with the mission of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Misr International University to enhance the research skills of its members.  On Wednesday, February 9, 2022, the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry organized a workshop in the field of analytical electrochemistry. The workshop was conducted in cooperation with the Egyptian Medicines Authority, represented by Dr. Hassan Hendawy. The workshop was attended by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Emad El-Gendy, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Sami Emara, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and several faculty members and teaching assistants.

Attendees were introduced to various research areas in the field of electrochemistry and its uses in medical and pharmaceutical tests. They were also trained on how to synthesize selective electrodes, using the best materials as well as the techniques adopted to enhance their effectiveness. 

ASCC Blanket Event

On December 24th, 2021, as part of the community service and social solidarity enhancement, more than 80 Faculty of Pharmacy students who are members of ASC Club, along with other students from different faculties, went to Salem Gad village in Fayoum. Students distributed 550 blankets to the needy to help keep them warm and comfortable during the cold winter nights.
