Prof. Dr. Ebtesam Ahmed visit

Prof. Dr. Ebtesam Ahmed gave hybrid lectures to 5th year MIU Pharmacy students between November 10th and November 17th, 2020. The lectures were on Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Peptic Ulcer Disease and Inflammatory Bowel Disease and their pharmacotherapeutic approaches. Dr. Ebtesam also conducted online case discussions with the faculty members and TAs of the Clinical Pharmacy Department. 

The lectures were extremely beneficial for the students and the Clinical Department staff.

Drug Design Poster Presentation Day

On the 8th of June 2022, the Faculty of Pharmacy organized the “Drug Design Poster Presentation Day” under the supervision of the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department. Fourth-year students enrolled in the Drug design course presented their final project which focused on designing new analogues as well as repurposing existing drugs via the utilization of the computer aided drug discovery software “Discovery Studio”.

Pharmacy Students recognition day

MIU Faculty of Pharmacy organized a Recognition Day on June 5, 2022, to acknowledge the efforts of Pharmacy students throughout the academic year. The Day was held under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Emad, Vice-president of the University and Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Students were recognized for their scientific accomplishments as well as their curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

The three highest achievers of the five pharmacy classes were honored as well as the best executed and elaborate Industrial Pharmacy projects. A special award was granted to Asmaa Raafat, postgraduate student in the Chemistry Master’s Degree Program, for being the first postgraduate student to publish a paper in a high-impact international journal. MIU presenters at the 27th DUPHAT Conference & Exhibition were also awarded. Two students were recognized for winning AIPC 2022 Pharmacy Students Competition. 

The efforts of MIU students during the accreditation visit by NAQAAE were also highly appreciated. The participating students were acknowledged for their remarkable presentation of MIU curriculum and facilities.

Finally, participants in MIU student activities, members of ASCC, MOVE, IHEPC, Tuners Club, and DIMAS and nominees for the final leaders’ league competition hosted by the Youth Leader Foundation (YLF) were also recognized.  

Career counseling session

In line with the mission of the Faculty of Pharmacy to equip its graduates with knowledge  and skills needed to become competent pharmacists, the faculty organized a career guidance seminar that was supported and endorsed by the Youth Leaders Foundation (YLF).

Safaa Hosni, Programs Manager at YLF, presented a talk to fourth- and fifth-year students. The discussion, entitled “Different directions, Super Pharmacist” introduced various careers available for pharmacists. Safaa highlighted the pros and cons of each career giving the future pharmacists a realistic picture of the Egyptian market.

White Coat Ceremony Class 2022

The Faculty of Pharmacy organized a celebration for seniors 2022 on May 10th. The White Coat Ceremony marks the graduating seniors’ first step as professional pharmacists in the healthcare field.

Congratulations to the newly cloaked pharmacy students, wishing them the best of luck in their career endeavors and hoping they uphold the profession’s code of ethics and provide the best possible patient care.

Feast Celebration

On May 1st, 2022, Pharmacy students, members of the IHEPC Club, along with students from other faculties, paid a visit to many people spending the Eid on their own. First, they went to “Ahalina Orphanage” to celebrate the feast with them. They spent the time playing games and blowing up balloons, as well as getting their faces painted and watching a puppet show. The students also visited “Dar Kebrna,” a home for the elderly, and ate kahk and fruits with, ensuring that senior citizens don’t feel a minute of loneliness on that festive day.

ASCC Ramadan Meals

On April 20, 2022, the nineteenth day of the holy month of Ramadan, Pharmacy students travelled more than 140 kilometres to Salem Gad village, located in the Youssef Al-Sedik region of Al-Fayoum, to distribute 200 Iftar meals to the less-privileged families there. They went with another 50 students from other faculties who are also members of “ASCC for Help.”

Career Counseling session powered by UPharma

As part of the “Meet Pharma Entrepreneur” series, the Faculty of Pharmacy, MIU organized the third career counselling session entitled “Career Decisions”. The event was held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022. Prof. Ahmed Laila, Managing Director of El-Motahedon Pharma Company for the Manufacture of Medicines, and Medical Appliances (U Pharma), met with the senior students to discuss their professional paths and offer advice on industrial professions. He explained the advantages and disadvantages of this career path and addressed their concerns regarding the pharmaceutical sector in Egypt and abroad.

The annual scientific conference “Navigating to the Future”

The Faculty of Pharmacy, Misr International University announces the holding of its annual scientific conference “*Navigating to the Future”*,  organized by Senior students, on August 7, 2022 at  Tolip Golden Plaza Hotel, under the auspices of Parkville Company.

The students will present the most important results of their research in the form of oral presentations as well as scientific posters .The submitted researches will address topics in many scientific research disciplines such as research on cancer treatment and neuropharmacology, nutrition, cardiology, microbiology and nanotechnology.
Eminent speakers are invited to present professional talks on various Pharmacy career pathways awaiting the graduates in their future. Judges evaluating students’ researches are from different Faculties of Pharmacy throughout Egypt.

GMU Seminar

Dr Samar Mowafy, assistant professor at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry department gave a talk on Tuesday, April 12th at the Master of Science in Drug Discovery and Development seminar series at Gulf Medical University (GMU). The seminar was attended by all faculty members and the students enrolled in the Master’s program, along with the department of pharmaceutical sciences members.

In the seminar titled “Chimeric kinase HDAC inhibitors: a challenging approach to combat cancer”, Dr Mowafy discussed the development of several dual kinase and HDAC inhibitors as one of the approaches to the treatment of various cancer types where both kinases and HDACs are overexpressed. Dr. Samar explained the usefulness of using such chimeric inhibitors and the latest developments in this field. In addition, she explained the synthesis and biological investigations performed for the newly developed compounds at different molecular and cellular levels to test their ability to inhibit specific types of kinase enzymes and HDACs as well.

At the end of the seminar, Dr Samar answered questions about the different possible future directions for the work. Mutual research interest was found among some of the department members, which could lead to further collaborative research work on both sides.
