MIU Faculty of Pharmacy Leads Health Awareness Convoy to Youssef Al-Siddiq Village: A Day of Medical Care and Community Support

In line with its commitment to promoting awareness and preserving community health, MIU Faculty of Pharmacy actively participated in a comprehensive medical convoy to the village of Youssef Al-Siddiq in Fayoum Governorate on Friday, May 26, 2023.

The convoy featured physicians from a variety of medical specialties, including orthopedics, ophthalmology, dermatology, pediatrics, and internal medicine. It also included blood analysis services under the supervision of specialized biochemists. The logistics of the convoy were efficiently organized by Pharmacy students and members of IHEPC student club.

During the convoy, pharmacy students played a crucial role in the accompanying pharmacy, dispensing medications and offering patient counseling under the supervision of Dr. Lobna Hatem, the academic supervisor of the club. A total of 501 patients received various health services, including examination, diagnosis, and medication. An informative session on diabetes and infectious diseases was conducted to raise awareness among the attendees.

Pharmacy Preceptorship Day and MOU Signing Ceremony with Mesh Premier Pharmaceuticals Company

The Office of Pharmacy Experiential Training (OPET), Faculty of Pharmacy, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mash Premiere Pharmaceutical Company on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.

The Memorandum was signed by Prof. Dr. Samy Emara, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, and Dr. Sherif Shaker, Mash Premiere Pharmaceutical Company Learning and Developing Manager.

The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Mohamed Marie, Mash Premiere HR Director, Dr. Ibram Samy, Mash Premiere Learning and Development Department, the Faculty of Pharmacy Vice Deans, members of the Quality Assurance Unit, and the OPET staff.

The MOU strengthens the academic collaboration between the two parties towards enhancing students’ pharmaceutical sales and manufacturing skills and enriching research contributions. It also allows for exchanging knowledge and experiences and developing academic programs to meet community needs.

Bridging Knowledge to Lifesaving: Advanced BLS Course for Pharmacy Graduates

The Continuing Education Committee, Faculty of Pharmacy, has recently provided an exceptional educational opportunity to 13 of its outstanding graduates: the Basic Life Support (BLS) course. 

This course was organized in partnership with the American Heart Association and Alameda’s Dar El Fouad Training Academy.

Designed with the utmost precision, the BLS training stands as a pinnacle of professional development for both Pharm D and Pharm D-Clinical Pharmacy graduates.

The course combined theoretical understanding with intense hands-on training to provide participants with vital life-saving abilities.

Key components of this training encompassed the mastery of critical concepts related to effective resuscitation, the use of an automatic external defibrillator (AED), CPR for adults, children, and infants, rescue breathing for all ages, bag-mask techniques for all ages, and management of choking patients of all ages.

Following practical and theoretical evaluations, AHA certificates were awarded at the end of the course. 

From Classroom to Production Line: Practical Pharma Training in Memphis

The Office of Pharmacy Experiential Training organized a two-week hands-on experiential training program at Memphis Pharmaceuticals and Chemical Industries Co.

This immersive experience exposed participants to various pharmaceutical industry aspects within a cutting-edge industrial setting.

During this 80-hour program of intensive training across different production lines, students actively supervised the production processes, ensuring the in-process control for each production line. They further delved into the production line documentation system, gaining insights into regulatory compliance and record-keeping.

Participants also learned about validation systems for production machine and the technical aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment. Moreover, a significant focus was placed on comprehending Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), emphasizing their role in maintaining best practices, safety, and quality.

Through this program which fosters a well-rounded understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, participants gained both theoretical knowledge and practical insights.

By providing real-world experience that goes beyond the classroom, this hands-on training prepares future professionals to contribute effectively to the field.

Faculty of Pharmacy holds unforgettable White Coat Ceremony and Parade

The Faculty of Pharmacy at MIU hosted the highly anticipated annual tradition known as the White Coat Ceremony, which marks a milestone for pharmacy students as they transition into the professional world of pharmaceutics. This ceremony symbolizes their unwavering commitment to patient care, professionalism, and ethical practice. It is a momentous occasion that celebrates the dedication and future contributions of our aspiring pharmacists.

While white coat ceremonies are celebrated worldwide in medical institutions, this year’s ceremony for MIU Pharmacy seniors’ class of 2023 held a unique twist. The Media and Website Committee at the Faculty of Pharmacy organized a vibrant parade for the senior students. The procession began at the faculty building and led them to the main festival hall in the university’s main building, guided by esteemed university officials including the University Vice-President for Education and Student Affairs, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, as well as Vice-Deans for Education and Student Affairs, Acting Vice Dean for Environmental Affairs and Community Service, department heads, and faculty members.

The festival hall buzzed with anticipation as the professors addressed the senior class. Their inspiring speeches offered invaluable advice as the students approach their final days at the university, highlighting the university’s commitment to equipping them with essential resources and skills.  Following the speeches, the students were individually presented with the coveted white coats on stage, marking a symbolic moment in their journey. They then gathered for a class photo to capture the moment alongside faculty members who proudly wore their own white coats.

Notably, this event was organized under the slogan of “Students for Students,” where 11 senior students worked collaboratively with the members of the Website and Media Committee to organize this memorable event.  Students expressed their appreciation to the faculty and staff for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Breaking News!!!! Our PharmD program has achieved International Accreditation from the prestigious Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)

It should be noted that acceptance is provisional because the visit was conducted online due to travel restrictions However, we anticipate an onsite verification visit within the next few months.

The Faculty of Pharmacy Hosting a Strategic Planning Workshop

The Faculty of Pharmacy, in collaboration with the UAE-based Center for Learning Innovations and Tailored Knowledge Solutions (CLICKS), hosted a virtual workshop on strategic planning for the faculty leaders and strategic planning team as well as a number of the faculty alumni. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Mokhtar Benhadria, CLICK’s International Associate and Head of Quality Assurance Division, International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF), Malaysia and Dr. Narimane Hadj-Hamou, Founder and CEO, CLICKS, UAE.

The objective of the workshop was to give participants an overview of the recent tools and techniques for formulating a well-developed strategic plan, emphasizing the significance of translating the faculty’s mission into quantifiable SMART objectives and effective KPIs.

Faculty members had the opportunity to analyze and discuss the Faculty’s strategic plan with the workshop facilitators in an effort to reevaluate and improve the present goals, objectives, KPIs, and strategic initiatives.

MIU Faculty of Pharmacy Industrial Visit to ACDIMA International Trading Company

As part of MIU Faculty of Pharmacy constant care for continuous learning, the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology organized an industrial visit for second year students on Sunday 21st of May, 2023. The students, accompanied with staff members, went to ACDIMA International Trading Company in 6th of October. The aim of this visit was to gain practical knowledge and technical skills in the field of drug production. The visit started with a session to get acquainted with the stages of drug production and quality control. It was then followed by a tour in the factory to observe all these stages starting from purchasing the raw materials until de-batching the final product.

Faculty of Pharmacy Provides Support to Baheya Foundation and Cancer Patients

The Faculty of Pharmacy at Misr International University (MIU) has once again demonstrated its commitment to community service and social accountability. On May 9th, 2023, the faculty members and students visited Baheya Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to providing cancer treatment and care.

During their visit, the faculty members provided free counseling and distributed medication to patients. They also interacted with the staff, gaining insights into the challenges faced by cancer patients.

MIU Faculty of Pharmacy is committed to continuing their community outreach efforts and collaborating with organizations like Baheya Foundation to make a positive impact on society.

Quality Management Systems in Pharmaceutical Industry

On May 3, 2023, Dr. Ola Abdel Kadir, Quality Consultant, visited the Faculty of Pharmacy and gave a lecture on quality management systems to fifth year Pharmacy students taking Quality Control course. During the lecture Dr. Ola held case discussions to provide students with actual problems encountered daily and means of handling them.

Dr. Ola’s wide range of industry expertise was a big addition to the students’ learning experience and an enrichment of their career prospects.
