Continuing Education Workshop on IV Admixture and Total Parenteral Nutrition

On January 16th, 2019, under the supervision of Dr. Mona Schaalan, Professor and Head of Clinical Pharmacy Department, the Faculty of Pharmacy organized a workshop titled IV Admixture and Total Parenteral Nutrition. It was conducted in collaboration with:
– Fresenius Kabi Pharmaceutical Company
– Dr. Heba Anees, former Clinical Pharmacy Manager at the National Cancer Institute, who was the lecturer and coordinator of the workshop
– Dr. Mirand Emile, Marketing Manager at Fresenius Kabi Pharmaceutical Company
– Dr. Wahid Ahmed El Aqabawy, Sales Marketing Manager at Fresenius Kabi Pharmaceutical Company
– Dr. Mohammed Abou-ElEla, General Manager, Middle East, Gulf, and NE Africa & Scientific Office Manager, at Fresenius Kabi Pharmaceutical Company

The workshop covered all aspects regarding IV admixing and how to prepare a total parenteral nutrition by showing the pharmacists how to apply aseptic techniques while working and how to work in primary engineering controls (PECs) and theapparatus used for compounding sterile preparations. The workshop covered all steps in this process, including how to sterilize the PEC and all equipment used, the proper way of handling ampoules and reconstituting vials aseptically, proper way of handling syringes and solution bags and how to inject the solution into the parenteral nutrition bag.

All attendees had the chance to work on the PEC available at the faculty and apply all the steps to gain hands-on experience.

Dr Ebtesam Ahmad Holds Workshops at MIU

Misr International University was pleased to host Dr Ebtesam Ahmad, Clinical Associate Professor at St. John’s University, as visiting professor from the 20th of November to the 4th of December, 2015.

Dr. Ahmed, also Pharm.D, M.S. at St. John’s University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and Clinical Pharmacist Specialist at MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care, shared her expertise in  two pharmaceutical workshops during her visit.

The first workshop was held at National Cancer Institute and addressed their clinical pharmacists with the theme “Pain Management and Palliative Care.”  The second was held in the Drug Information Center at MIU, and was directed to the Teaching Assistants of the Clinical Pharmacy Department, with the title: “Supportive Care in Oncology; the Role of the Clinical Pharmacist.”

Dr Ebtesam also presented a session in the 9th Continuing Education workshop of the Faculty of Pharmacy that was held on the 26th of November, titled “Palliative Care in Critical Illness.” Moreover, she contributed to teaching senior pharmacy students’ topics on Palliative Care, Pain Management and Hepatitis C.

 

Dr Taher Hegab Conducts Workshops at MIU Faculty of Pharmacy

Dr Taher Hegab, Assistant Professor of Clinical Sciences at California Health Sciences University, visited the MIU Faculty of Pharmacy and conducted two workshops from November 13 to 27, 2015.

Dr. Hegab held a 5-day professional development workshop for clinical pharmacists at the National Cancer Institute as well as for the teaching assistants of the Clinical Pharmacy Department from November 15 to 19 with the theme “Pharmaceutical Services in Critical Care Settings.”

Dr Hegab also presented a session in the 9th Continuing Education workshop of the Faculty of Pharmacy that was held on the 26th of November, titled “Pharmaceutical Care in Critically Ill Patients.”    This workshop was conducted as part of ACPE accredited series of the Continuing Professional Pharmacy Development Program at MIU.  Attendees included 100 hospital and clinical pharmacists from diverse health institutions in Egypt as well as academic colleagues from governmental faculties of Pharmacy.

Moreover, Dr. Hegab contributed to teaching senior pharmacy students topics on Acute Kidney Injury and Sepsis.

 

9th Continuing Education workshop

The MIU Faculty of Pharmacy prides itself on having successfully held the 9th Continuing Education workshop on Thursday November 26 on the topic of Pharmaceutical Care in Critical Illness.

The workshop included three important sessions for the development of pharmacy practice in Egypt.  The first session was held by Dr Taher Hegab, Assistant Professor of Clinical Sciences at California Health Sciences University, who presented on Pharmaceutical Care in Critically Ill Patients.

The second session was held by Dr. Ebtesam Ahmad, Clinical Associate Professor at St. John’s University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, with the title Palliative Care in Critical Illness.

Dr Ahmad Abdelhady, Assistant Professor in Clinical Pharmacy at MIU, presented the third session on Pharmacokinetic Changes in Critical Illness.

The workshop attendees were 100 hospital and clinical pharmacists from diverse health institutions in Egypt, including Elgalaa, Air Defense, Ain Shams and Kasr El Aini Hospitals and Dar ElShefaa.  Attendees also included academic colleagues from governmental faculties of pharmacy in Cairo, Ain Shams and Tanta Universities.

The Continuous Education workshop was held as part of the ongoing ACPE accredited series of the Continuing Professional Pharmacy Development Program at MIU, Faculty of Pharmacy.

Continuing Education Workshop on the New Trends in Oncology

Misr International University’s Faculty of Pharmacy held its 11th Continuing Education Workshop entitled “New Trends in Oncology: A Focus on Nutrition, Anticoagulation Management and Beyond” on Tuesday, September 27th, 2016.

The workshop was conducted by renowned professors and around 111 attendees from various health institutions that included Nasser Institute, Ain Shams University, Cairo University, National Cancer Institute, Alumni, Cleopatra Hospital, Maadi Military Hospital, International Medical Center, Ahmed Maher Hospital, El-Ezaby Pharmacy and Cairo University Hospitals.

The workshop included four important sessions for the development of pharmacy practice in Egypt. The first session was held by Dr. Sharon See, Pharm.D, FCCP, BCPS, St. John’s University College of Pharmacy, New York – USA, who discussed the Anticoagulation in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation.

The second session was held by Dr. Amr Shafik, MD Associate Professor of Oncology, Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University and he discussed the Immunotherapy and Cancer Treatment.

The workshop’s third session was conducted by Dr. Ebtesam Ahmed, Pharm.D, M.S. Clinical Associate Professor St. John’s University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, New York – USA, who tackled the Venous Thromboembolism in Cancer Patients.

Finally, Dr. Yasmine Lashine, MD, PhD, Lecturer of Molecular Genetics Pathology & Pathophysiology, Clinical Nutrition at AUC conducted the fourth session, in which she discussed the Nutritional Support and Quality of Life in Palliative Care of Cancer Patients.

A Focus on Nutrition, Anticoagulation Management and Beyond

 

The event was composed of four scientific sessions. The first was held by Dr.Sharon See, Pharm.D, FCCP, BCPS  St. John’s University College of Pharmacy, New York, USA who presented a  sessions on “Anticoagulation in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation”.  The session of Dr. Ebtesam Ahmad, Pharm.D, M.S. was titled “Venous Thromboembolism in Cancer Patients”. Dr. Amr Shafik, MD, Associate Professor of Oncology, Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University presented on “Immunotherapy and Cancer Treatment ”.
