Blood Donation Campaign

In collaboration with the National Blood Transfusion Services at the Egyptian Ministry of Health, the Faculty of Pharmacy organized the annual on campus blood donation campaign for three days (November 28–30, 2022), during which students and university staff donated 372 blood bags under the slogan “A drop of blood equals a life.”

Pharmacy students, particularly members of the Drug Information and Medical Awareness Services (DIMAS) club made a remarkable effort during this campaign by producing numerous banners and leaflets emphasizing the importance of blood donation.  

Visit to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization

The Faculty of Pharmacy, Misr International University, organized a trip to the Museum of Egyptian Civilization, Fustat, for 42 children from El-Salam city.  The trip, which was held in collaboration with the Egyptian Red Crescent in Al-Nahda, took place on November 22, 2022.

MIU students, members of Dimas Student Club, accompanied the children and made the trip both fun and educational by helping raise the children’s health awareness about how respiratory infections spread.

DIMAS club Orphan Trip

Pharmacy students who are members of the Dimas Student Club participated in organizing a trip to the International Park in Nasr City for 20 children, accompanied by their parents, from inclusive schools (cerebral palsy patients) at the Noor Al-Hayat Oasis Association in Hadayek Al-Kobba. The trip was on Saturday, November 19, 2022.

The university provided a bus for transportation to and from the headquarters of the association. During the day, Pharmacy students shared a number of joyous activities with the children, including one that aimed at raising their awareness about how respiratory infections are transmitted.

شارك طلاب كلية الصيدلة الأعضاء في النادي الطلابي دايماس بتنظيم رحلة لعدد 20 طفلًا وطفلة من مدارس الدمج (مرضى الشلل الدماغي) بجمعية واحة نور الحياة بحدائق القبة لزيارة الحديقة الدولية بمدينة نصر برفقة أولياء أمورهم وذلك يوم السبت الموافق 19 نوفمبر2022. قامت الجامعة بتوفير حافلة للانتقال إلى مقر الجمعية والعودة منه ورافق الأطفال مجموعة من طلاب النادي الطلابي دايماس. قام الطلاب بتقديم توعية صحية عن كيفية انتقال العدوى التنفسية.

Breast Cancer Awareness session at El Salam Hospital

As  part of community- oriented medical education and awareness, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Misr International University organized two scientific symposium sessions in collaboration with the administration of Al Salam Medical District.

The first session tackled breast cancer awareness, early discovery of cancer breast and how to be protected from it”. The event was held on Thursday, October 13, 2022. The second session was about infection control measures, vaccines and regular check-ups recommended for healthcare workers.

The symposium was conducted by Dr. Niveen Sarhan, Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, with the participation of Dr. Elham Ibrahim, Director of Al Salam Medical District, and Dr. Nancy Fouad, Director of Health Education.

The event was attended by medical staff in El-Salam District, who benefited from this joint cooperation to enhance awareness raising skills of health workers.

Feast Celebration

On May 1st, 2022, Pharmacy students, members of the IHEPC Club, along with students from other faculties, paid a visit to many people spending the Eid on their own. First, they went to “Ahalina Orphanage” to celebrate the feast with them. They spent the time playing games and blowing up balloons, as well as getting their faces painted and watching a puppet show. The students also visited “Dar Kebrna,” a home for the elderly, and ate kahk and fruits with, ensuring that senior citizens don’t feel a minute of loneliness on that festive day.

ASCC Ramadan Meals

On April 20, 2022, the nineteenth day of the holy month of Ramadan, Pharmacy students travelled more than 140 kilometres to Salem Gad village, located in the Youssef Al-Sedik region of Al-Fayoum, to distribute 200 Iftar meals to the less-privileged families there. They went with another 50 students from other faculties who are also members of “ASCC for Help.”

GMU Seminar

Dr Samar Mowafy, assistant professor at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry department gave a talk on Tuesday, April 12th at the Master of Science in Drug Discovery and Development seminar series at Gulf Medical University (GMU). The seminar was attended by all faculty members and the students enrolled in the Master’s program, along with the department of pharmaceutical sciences members.

In the seminar titled “Chimeric kinase HDAC inhibitors: a challenging approach to combat cancer”, Dr Mowafy discussed the development of several dual kinase and HDAC inhibitors as one of the approaches to the treatment of various cancer types where both kinases and HDACs are overexpressed. Dr. Samar explained the usefulness of using such chimeric inhibitors and the latest developments in this field. In addition, she explained the synthesis and biological investigations performed for the newly developed compounds at different molecular and cellular levels to test their ability to inhibit specific types of kinase enzymes and HDACs as well.

At the end of the seminar, Dr Samar answered questions about the different possible future directions for the work. Mutual research interest was found among some of the department members, which could lead to further collaborative research work on both sides.

Al Salam Awareness Symposium

The Faculty of Pharmacy at Misr International University, in collaboration with the administration of Al Salam Medical District, organized a scientific symposium tackling “The Foundations of Proper Nutrition and Optimal Use of Medicine during the Holy Month of Ramadan”. The event was held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.

Dr. Manal Abu Al Kheir, Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, conducted the talk with the participation of Dr. Elham Ibrahim, Director of Al Salam Medical District, and Dr. Nancy Fouad, Director of Health Education.

Many workers in the medical sector in Al Salam Zone attended the symposium and expressed their appreciation for the joint efforts to raise the skills and awareness of health workers.”

Ramadan food bags

On April 1, 2022, MIU Pharmacy students travelled more than 140 kilometers to Salem Gad village, located in the Youssef Al-Sedik region of Al-Fayoum, to distribute 200 Ramadan food bags to the village people. They went with more than 100 students from other faculties who are also members of “ASCC for Help” and “Move Club”. This comes as part of the MIU goal of engaging the students in beneficial community service and social solidarity projects.

ASCC-Ceiling

On March 11th, 2022, more than 90 students from various MIU faculties, including Faculty of Pharmacy, representing ASCC (Awareness Service Charity Club) travelled over 140 km to Salem Gad village in Fayoum to:

– Distribute 7 ceiling fans.

– Help in building 7 roofs.

– Give awareness tips to villagers on how to lead a healthy life.
