Faculty of Pharmacy Organizes a Workshop on Enhancing Communication Skills in Health Awareness Promoters

In line with its commitment to promoting health communication, the Community Service Committee at the Faculty of Pharmacy organized a workshop on the psychology of effective communication and its profound influence on shaping positive health behaviors.

The workshop took place on September 20th, 2023, and was attended by around 20 academic staff members and teaching assistants, 50 enthusiastic students, and 6 alumni.

The workshop highlighted the relationship between personality traits and individuals’ responses to illness and healthcare information, as well as the psychology of communication and its impact on health behaviors.

Guiding us through this enlightening session was Prof. Dr. Samah Hamed, a renowned Professor of Psychiatry from Helwan University, known for her extensive research background and dedication to Psychiatry.

وقعت كلية الصيدلة بجامعة مصر الدولية في 16 سبتمبر 2023 مذكرة تفاهم مع مؤسسة هوسبيس مصر، المقيدة بوزارة التضامن الاجتماعي بهدف تقديم الرعاية الصحية لمرضى الحالات المتأخرة من الأمراض المختلفة في أيامهم الأخيرة.

تعكس هذة المذكرة حرص الكلية على تحقيق رسالتها للمساهمة في دعم صحة أفراد المجتمع وسلامتهم وتقديم خدمات الرعاية التلطيفية للمرضى في محافظات القاهرة والجيزة والقليوبية.
ويمنح هذا التعاون فرصة تدريب صيفي للطلاب في مجموعة من الأنشطة الاجتماعية داخل مقر المؤسسة ومنشأة هوسبيس بهدف تنشئة صيادلة قادرين على التفاعل المجتمعي وتحمل المسؤولية المجتمعية، كما أنه يعتبر خطوة إيجابية نحو تعزيز قيم التعاون والمسؤولية من أجل صحة المجتمع.

Faculty of Pharmacy Signs a Memorandum of Understanding with Hospice Egypt

On September 16, 2023, MIU Faculty of Pharmacy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hospice Egypt, a registered non-governmental organization dedicated to providing care for patients with advanced-stage illnesses during their final days.

This MoU marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between MIU and Hospice Egypt, in line with the Faculty’s mission to contribute to the health and well-being of the public. The core objective of the MoU is to offer palliative care services to adult patients in Cairo, Giza, and Qalyubia governorates.

Furthermore, the MoU offers an invaluable opportunity for students to engage in summer training in various social work activities within the organization’s premises and the established Hospice facility. This hands-on experience ensures that future pharmacy professionals not only excel academically but also uphold social responsibility.

Through this collaboration, the faculty is taking a positive stride towards promoting values of collaboration and enhances the students’ sense of social accountability, while contributing to the well-being of the community.

Al-Sharkia Governor and MIU Faculty of Pharmacy Collaborate to Enhance Community Engagement and Citizens’ Health

On Tuesday, July 18th, Prof. Dr. Mamdouh Ghorab, the esteemed Governor of Al-Sharkia warmly welcomed Dr. Hekmat El Magdoub, Acting Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Affairs, Faculty of Pharmacy, and Prof. Dr. Fetouh Hassanein, a distinguished member of the community service committee.

During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Mamdouh Ghorab shed light on “Hayah Karima” national initiative endorsed by H.E President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. “Hayah Karima” operates within a framework of synergy and collaboration among national institutions, private sector institutions, civil society, and development partners in Egypt.

The meeting featured key highlights, including:

  1. Community Engagement of Pharmacy Students: Dr. Hekmat El Magdoub emphasized the university’s commitment to community service and the pivotal role pharmacy students play in promoting the health and well-being of the public through experiential learning, volunteerism, and outreach programs.
  2. Health Education Initiatives: Both parties emphasized the importance of health education in empowering citizens to lead healthier lives through seminars and awareness campaigns on prevalent health issues.
  3. Medical Convoys: Prof. Dr. Fetouh Hassanein proposed the establishment of free medical convoys in underserved areas of Al-Sharkia, with the aim of providing basic health screenings, medication counseling, and disease prevention guidance to the local population.

Prof. Dr. Ghorab expressed his appreciation for the academics’ dedication to community service and their commitment to nurturing socially responsible pharmacy professionals.
Dr. El Magdoub and Prof. Dr. Hassanein extended sincere gratitude for the Governor’s support, affirming that MIU Faculty of Pharmacy is commitment to positively impact Al-Sharkia’s communities. Together, they look forward to the contribution to the “Hayah Karima” initiatives and transforming the shared vision into a reality that fosters a healthier and more prosperous Al-Sharkia.

MIU Faculty of Pharmacy Leads Health Awareness Convoy to Youssef Al-Siddiq Village: A Day of Medical Care and Community Support

In line with its commitment to promoting awareness and preserving community health, MIU Faculty of Pharmacy actively participated in a comprehensive medical convoy to the village of Youssef Al-Siddiq in Fayoum Governorate on Friday, May 26, 2023.

The convoy featured physicians from a variety of medical specialties, including orthopedics, ophthalmology, dermatology, pediatrics, and internal medicine. It also included blood analysis services under the supervision of specialized biochemists. The logistics of the convoy were efficiently organized by Pharmacy students and members of IHEPC student club.

During the convoy, pharmacy students played a crucial role in the accompanying pharmacy, dispensing medications and offering patient counseling under the supervision of Dr. Lobna Hatem, the academic supervisor of the club. A total of 501 patients received various health services, including examination, diagnosis, and medication. An informative session on diabetes and infectious diseases was conducted to raise awareness among the attendees.

Faculty of Pharmacy Provides Support to Baheya Foundation and Cancer Patients

The Faculty of Pharmacy at Misr International University (MIU) has once again demonstrated its commitment to community service and social accountability. On May 9th, 2023, the faculty members and students visited Baheya Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to providing cancer treatment and care.

During their visit, the faculty members provided free counseling and distributed medication to patients. They also interacted with the staff, gaining insights into the challenges faced by cancer patients.

MIU Faculty of Pharmacy is committed to continuing their community outreach efforts and collaborating with organizations like Baheya Foundation to make a positive impact on society.

Faculty of Pharmacy Supports Abouelrish Japanese Hospital

On Saturday March 18, 2023, a delegate comprising 18 students & faculty members from Faculty of Pharmacy paid a visit to Abou El-Reesh Japanese Hospital, Cairo University. The visit comes in support of the effort of the hospital to deliver quality healthcare services.

The delegate was warmly welcomed by Prof. Dr. Hanaa El Karaksy, professor of Pediatrics, who expressed her appreciation for the university’s voluntary efforts & role in supporting institutions that contribute to the well-being of the community.

A monetary donation was presented, specifically designated to support the Pediatric Liver Disease Clinic. Students also distributed gifts to both the hospitalized children and the outpatients. Such contributions directly aid the hospital’s ongoing efforts to provide advanced medical treatments and exceptional patient care.

The Faculty of Pharmacy, MIU remains dedicated to its role in serving the community through strategic partnerships and initiatives. Their support to Abou El Reesh Japanese Hospital reflects their core values of integrity and social accountability, emphasizing their commitment to actively contribute to the improvement of healthcare services and the well-being of the community they serve.

MIU Visits National Cancer Institute

On Tuesday March 14,2023, a delegation from Faculty of Pharmacy, 14 students & 2 Faculty members, paid a visit to National Cancer Institute. The visit comes as part of the Faculty’s commitment to social accountability, participation, and community service, as well as its  unwavering commitment to promoting the health and well-being of the public. The delegation was warmly received by Dr. Tarek Khairy, Deputy Director of the Institute for Community Service

During the visit, the delegation made a monetary contribution dedicated to the purchase of medications for the patients. Students also distributed gifts to both children and outpatients..

The visit, concluded with signing an agreement to foster the ongoing collaboration between the university and the institute to enhance the wellbeing of society and make a positive impact on the lives of cancer patients and their families.

معرض للمنتجات اليدوية للأسر المنتجة

في إطار مجهودات جامعة مصر الدولية لإعلاء قيم المثابرة والكفاح والعمل الجاد تم تنظيم معرض للمنتجات اليدوية للأسر المنتجة من منطقتي مصر القديمة ومدينة السلام يوم الأربعاء 15 فبراير 2023 بمناسبة اقتراب حلول شهر رمضان المبارك. وشاركت 22 أسرة وتم عرض منتجاتهم من منسوجات مطرزة ومفارش وإكسسوارات حريمي ولوحات فنية وفخار ملون وتحف وغير ذلك من المصنوعات اليدوية.

You Are the Next Success Story Campaign by Youth Leader Foundation organization (YLF)

From 27/11/2022 to 1/12/2022 the Faculty of Pharmacy, in coordination with the Youth Leaders Foundation, a non-profit NGO, conducted awareness campaigns for MIU students about the Leaders Program. During this period, representatives of the Foundation were present daily from 10 am to 4:30 pm to give out application forms and conduct interviews to interested students.  

Two sessions were given by the Foundation representatives. The first was conducted on Sunday 27/11/ 2022, introducing the Program. The second was given on Wednesday 30/11/2022 by Mr. Ahmed Fathi, Executive Director of the Youth Leaders Foundation, about the activities of the Foundation and how they affect the various aspects of youth personalities.

قامت كلية الصيدلة بجامعة مصر الدولية بالتنسيق مع مؤسسة شباب القادة، وهي مؤسسة أهلية غير هادفة للربح، بعمل حملات توعية داخل الجامعة لطلاب الكليات المختلفة عن برنامج القادة، وذلك في الفترة من 27/11/2022 إلى 1/12/2022. وقد تواجد ممثلو المؤسسة خلال هذه الفترة يوميًا من الساعة العاشرة صباحًا إلى الرابعة والنصف مساء لتلقي استمارات التقديم للبرنامج وعمل المقابلات والاختبارات اللازمة للمتقدمين. وقد تم تنظيم جلسة تعريفية من قبل ممثلي المؤسسة عن البرنامج يوم الأحد الموافق 27/11/2022. كما قام الأستاذ أحمد فتحي، المدير التنفيذي لمؤسسة شباب القادة بإلقاء محاضرة عن أنشطة المؤسسة وكيفية تأثيرها في الجوانب المختلفة لشخصيات الشباب وذلك يوم الأربعاء الموافق 30/11/2022.
