Researches off the Ground
A workshop entitled “The University Impact Rankings” was organized by the University Community Services and Environmental Affairs Committee in cooperation with The Egyptian Knowledge Bank was held on Tuesday the 2nd of July 2019.
The workshop was introduced by Prof. Samaa EL Dek, Head of the Department of Materials Science and Nanotechnology and Director of the International Classification Office at Beni Suef University.
The objective of the workshop was to discuss the University Impact Rankings based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals were discussed and it was agreed that the Partnership SDG17 are mandatory goals, in addition to three or more elective goals from the list of non-mandatory SDGS.
Members of the University Ranking Committee attended the workshop. The instructor was rated Excellent by 40% of the participants, Very Good by 60%. The attendees requested continuous workshops as well as hands on applications.
A workshop organized by the University Community Services and Environmental Affairs Committee entitled “Introduction to Ethics and Qualitative Research” was held in cooperation with The Egyptian Knowledge Bank on Monday the 8th of July 2019. It was introduced by
Dr. Isabelle Nakhla, MD, MSC., PhD Clinical Research Scientist, NAMURU-3. The workshop aimed at introducing research ethics concepts of qualitative research to the leaders, staff members, and teaching assistants of the Humanitarian Sector faculties as well as the medical sector at the MIU. The workshop started with an introduction to general and guiding principles of research ethics and their applications, including the informed consent process, confidentiality and risk and benefits evaluation. The composition of the IRB, as well as the ethical problems of the qualitative research, were discussed. Finally, the importance of research ethics review was stressed, as it is an international requirement and MIU should be leading this field.
The workshop was attended by the Dean and Staff Members of the Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication, as well as the teaching assistants of the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine . The instructor was rated excellent by 58% of the participants, very good by 33% and good by 9%.
Misr International University conducted a workshop under the supervision of Community Service Sector in collaboration with the Egyptian Knowledge Bank on Tuesday 14th November 2017. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Philip Purnell, Director – Research and Publishing Services, Knowledge E. All deans, vice deans and staff members representing all faculties participated in the workshop. As the world of Bibliometrics is a relatively new field, the aim of the workshop was to practice Bibliometric analytical techniques with real data.. The workshop outlines bibliometric case studies, commonly used bibliometric methods and indicators, controversy and limitations of bibliometrics, University rankings methodologies, data sources and coverage. Eight attendees evaluated the workshop as excellent and 7 attendees evaluated it as very good.
Under the umbrella of Community Service Sector and in collaboration with Elsevier Research Intelligence, Misr International University conducted a workshop entitled “Performance Indicators” on Monday November 20, 2017. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Mohamed Amir, Africa Regional Manager, Elsevier Research Intelligence. All deans, vice deans and staff members representing all faculties participated in the workshop. The aim was to discuss University ranking methodologies, University ranking using Scopus data, metrics that count and help improve this ranking as well as the way university data submission impacts ranking-. Eleven attendees evaluated the workshop as excellent while 4 attendees evaluated it as very good. The recommendations mainly included extending the workshop time and providing handouts.
