A Visit to El Safwa elderly home care

The Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee, Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine organized a field trip to El Safwa elderly home care (El Obour branch) on Saturday 19th of November 2022. A group of 4th year students and staff members from the faculty joined the trip.

The purpose of the visit was to raise the awareness of the residents, employees, and the care givers both males and females regarding dental health and how to improve the oral health care of the residents of the elderly home care as well as oral and dental examination by the students.

During the visit, the students presented a live demonstration using toothbrushes and simulating dental casts to show the residents the proper technique for tooth brushing. The students examined all the residents, employees, and the caregivers both males and females, and each one was individually given a diagnostic card with the oral/ dental problem found and it’s treatment plan to facilitate their treatment later at the MIU Dental Clinic Complex. Free transportation from and back to the elderly home care was also offered.

Students chatted with the elders and took photos with them the whole visit, allowing them to ask all the questions regarding oral and dental health. Fifty toothbrushes and toothpastes were gifted to the residents. Also, food elements were given to the elderly home care together with six blankets that were purchased and given upon their request.

Questionnaires were distributed on the employees and caregivers to determine their dental health needs and to evaluate the provided program and measure their satisfaction with the visit. Another questionnaire was also distributed to the students and staff members participating to evaluate the visit and its outcome.

Green actions and the climate race towards zero emissions and resilience

On the sideline of the climate conference, the community service and environmental affairs faculty of oral and dental medicine in cooperation with faculty of pharmacy organized a presentation on “green actions and the climate race towards zero emissions and resilience” was presented by professor Nour Shafik ElGendy in room OOA on Monday the 24th of October 2022 at 12 pm. University president, a group of staff members of both faculties, teaching assistants, and students attended the presentation.

On the sideline of the climate conference, on Monday the 31st of October 2022, the community service and environmental affairs faculty of oral and dental medicine, MIU student club (CDC) participated in awareness activities at MIU campus using flyers to be distributed amongst students and workers of the university. In addition, posters for advertisement were displayed all over the campus.

A Visit to SOS Orphanage

The Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee, Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine organized a field trip training for fourth year students to SOS Orphanage in Nasr City on Saturday 29th of October 2022. A group of students and staff members from the faculty joined the field trip.

The purpose of the visit was to raise the awareness of the employees and the care givers of the children regarding dental health and how to improve the oral health care of the children, caregivers, and the employees of the orphanage. Balloons, pens, and chocolates were distributed to the children at the beginning of the visit to break the ice between them and the students in order to ease the process of the examination.

The children at first were given the dental casts and toothbrushes to show their techniques of brushing. Afterwards, the students presented a live demonstration using toothbrushes and simulating dental casts to show the children the proper technique for tooth brushing and to correct the faulty techniques used by them. The students examined all the children and the caregivers, and each one was individually given a diagnostic card to facilitate their treatment later at the MIU Dental Clinic Complex. Dental treatments and transportation from and back to the orphanage house free of charge were also offered.

Students played with the children and took photos with them the whole day. A hundred toothbrushes and toothpastes were distributed to the children. Also, food supplies were given to the orphanage house together with 520 notebooks that were purchased and given upon their request.

Questionnaires were distributed to the employees to determine their dental health needs and to evaluate the provided program and measure their satisfaction with the visit. Another questionnaire was also distributed to the students and staff members participating to evaluate the visit and its outcome.

Visit to Zohour El Rabie Orphanage

The Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee organized a trip to Zohour El Rabie Orphanage on Thursday September 1st, 2022. Community service members, together with 32 interns, visited the orphanage to raise dental health awareness of caregivers, employees, children, and youths.

The children and youths were asked to present their regular brushing techniques in front of the interns. Afterwards, the interns presented a live demonstration on dental casts, simulating the proper technique for toothbrushing and means of correcting faulty ones. The interns played with the children and took photos with them until the end of the visit.

The Committee offered children, youths, employees, and caregivers free transportation from and to the orphanage, inviting them to visit MIU Dental Clinic Complex to receive the required dental care, free of charge. Questionnaires were distributed among them to determine their dental health needs.

One hundred toothpastes and hundred toothbrushes were given as gifts to the children and youths. Alcohol bottles, masks, a washing machine, and food supplies were also given to the orphanage.

A Visit to El Safwa Elderly Home Heliopolis branch

The Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee, Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, in cooperation with the Internship Administration Office and the support of University Council, organized a visit to El Safwa Elderly Care Home Heliopolis branch, on Tuesday 16th of August 2022.

The visit aimed to raise the awareness of the employees and the elderly residents, both males and females, regarding COVID-19 virus, to promote personal protection from the virus and prevent transmission of infection to others. The visit also aimed at highlighting the importance of dental health and ways to improve oral health care.

During the visit, interns demonstrated proper brushing techniques using dental cast simulators and toothbrushes. MIU committee members invited the residents and employees of the elderly home to visit MIU Dental Clinics Complex to receive any needed dental care, free of charge, using MIU buses. Based on their needs, fans and food supplies were delivered to the employees and residents during the visit.

By the end of the visit, questionnaires were distributed to the employees of the elderly home to rate their satisfaction with the visit in terms of the presentations, giveaways, and the overall impact of the visit. Thirty packs of toothpastes, thirty toothbrushes, two bottles of alcohol, two packs of face masks, and two packs of gloves were also distributed to the residents and employees.

A preliminary visit was done on the 6th of June 2022 to determine the needs of the care home. According to their needs, three fans and food supplies were delivered to the employees and residents during the visit.

By the end of the visit, questionnaires were distributed to the employees of the elderly home to rate their satisfaction with the visit in terms of the presentations, giveaways, and the overall impact of the visit. 25 packs of toothpastes, 25 toothbrushes, 2 bottles of alcohol, and 2 packs of face masks were also distributed to the residents and employees.

Misr International University in the Spanish Simago Ranking

For the first time, Misr International University (MIU) was ranked by the Spanish Simago Ranking which is an international body for classifying academic and research institutions.  Ranking is based on collecting and evaluating the activities of the institution featured on the internet in relation to three main criteria: research performance, innovation, and societal impact.

As for the general ranking of universities, MIU ranked 688 globally out of 4364 universities, and came in the 14th place among 42 Egyptian universities, 43rd place among 276 Arab universities, 48th place among 244 African universities, and finally 87th place among 494 universities from the Middle East.

Universities are divided into ranks according to percentiles. According to this division, the university ranked 65% as a general assessment, 69% in the research performance standard, 48% in the innovation standard and 96% in the societal impact standard.

في إطار دعم جهود الرعاية الصحية المجتمعية وطبقًا لخطة وزارة الصحة قامت جامعة مصر الدولية في الفترة من الأحد الموافق 9/10/2022 حتي الخميس الموافق 13/10/2022 بدعم منطقة السلام الطبية في حملة التطعيم التنشيطية ضد مرض شلل الأطفال وذلك بتوفير حافلات لنقل عدد مئة واثنتي ممرضة مشاركة في الحملة من مدرسة التمريض بمستشفى صدر العباسية إلى مناطق التطعيم المختلفة في منطقة السلام والنهضه والعوده بهن.

MIU Supports Al-Salam Health Department during Polio Booster Campaign

Pursuant to its role in supporting community health services, and in accordance with the Ministry of Health plan, MIU provided assistance to Al-Salam Health Department during the polio booster campaign from Sunday 9/10/2022 to Thursday 13/10/2022.

MIU provided buses for the transportation of 202 nurses, sharing in the campaign, back and forth from the Abassia Chest Hospital Nursing School to vaccination centers in Al-Salam and El Nahda.
