Senior pharmacy students and one fresh graduate had the opportunity to join the Creighton Pharmacy International Student Program from the 9th of July to 13th of August, 2018. This program provided a great opportunity for the students to get an overview on the healthcare system in the United States and understand the role of the clinical pharmacist in different healthcare settings.
The program included 6 days of theoretical didactic lectures on the profession of pharmacy, cultural competence, inter-professional educational experience, roles of different healthcare professionals, medication errors, introduction to aseptic technique and practice and history of pharmacy in USA.
Students had the opportunity to job shadow with professors and senior students in different healthcare settings, besides observing how healthcare professionals use technology in their practice, robots in dispensary pharmacy and the use of electronic medical records.
On the last day of the program,the students held a presentation about the healthcare system in Egypt and the Egyptian culture that was attended by the faculty members of the School of Pharmacy at Creighton University. After the presentation there was a closing ceremony where the students were granted their certificates.
