Open Cultural Dialogue series of ElBeit Magazine’s fourth edition, commemorating Alvar Aalto

On March 3rd, 2024, Architecture Department students actively participated in the Open Cultural Dialogue series of ElBeit Magazine’s fourth edition, commemorating Alvar Aalto, the pioneer of Modern Architecture and Design.

The four-day event was organized by the Finnish Ambassador to Egypt, the Alvar Aalto Foundation, Design Firm Associates (DFA), and SANAD for women. The event took place at the residence of the Finnish Ambassador.

Alvar Aalto, the Finnish architect and designer, is renowned for his humanistic approach to modernism. He pioneered a harmonious blend of architecture, nature, and human needs, leaving an indelible mark with iconic structures like the Paimio Sanatorium and the Finlandia Hall. Aalto’s designs continue to be celebrated for their organic forms, functionality, and innovative use of natural materials, shaping the landscape of modern architecture and design.

During the event, students had the unique opportunity to engage with Aalto’s actual designs, gaining deeper insights into his architectural philosophy and artistic vision. This experience enriched their educational journey and nurtured their creative aspirations.

The event culminated in an open dialogue session where students interacted with distinguished figures, including Pekka Kosonen (The Finnish Ambassador to Egypt), Mohamed Hamada (Founder of DFA), Sawsan Murad Ezz El-Arab (Editor-in-Chief of ElBeit Magazine), Timo Riekko (Representative of the Alvar Aalto Foundation), and Soraya Bahgat (Finnish-Egyptian Advocate for Women’s Rights).

طلبة قسم الهندسة المعمارية يشاركون بنشاط في سلسلة الحوار الثقافي المفتوح لتكريم ألفار ألتو رائد العمارة والتصميم الحديث في 3 مارس 2024.

في إطار الجزء الرابع من سلسلة حوار مجلة البيت استمر هذا الحدث لمدة أربعة أيام وتم تنظيمه بالتعاون مع السفير الفنلندي في مصر ومؤسسة ألفار ألتو وشركة (DFA) Design Firm Associates ومؤسسة SANAD للمرأة في مقر إقامة سفير فنلندا بالقاهرة.

استغل الطلاب هذه الفرصة للتفاعل مع تصاميم ألتو الفعلية مما منحهم فهمًا أعمق لفلسفته المعمارية ورؤيته الفنية مما أثر إيجابًا على رحلتهم التعليمية وزاد من طموحاتهم الإبداعية. اختتم الحدث بجلسة حوار مفتوحة مع الطلاب، حيث تفاعلوا مع شخصيات متميزة بما في ذلك بيكا كوسونين (السفير الفنلندي في مصر) ومحمد حمادة مؤسس (DFA) وسوسن مراد عز العرب (رئيس تحرير مجلة البيت) وتيمو ريكو (ممثل مؤسسة ألفار ألتو) وسرايا بهجت (المدافعة الفنلندية المصرية عن حقوق المرأة).

شكل هذا الحدث تكريمًا لعبقرية ألتو المعمارية وأبرز رؤية قسم الهندسة المعمارية في جامعة مصر الدولية الذي يهدف إلى تعريف طلابنا بتنوع النهج المعماري.

ألفار ألتو هو مهندس ومصمم فنلندي معروف بنهجه الإنساني للحداثة. قاد توازنًا متناغمًا بين العمارة والطبيعة واحتياجات الإنسان وأبدع في بناء هياكل شهيرة مثل مصحة بايميو وقاعة فنلنديا. تُحتفى بتصاميم ألتو لأشكالها العضوية ووظائفها واستخدامها الابتكاري للمواد الطبيعية مما أسهم في تشكيل العمارة الحديثة.
