For the Third Year in a Row MIU Participates in the Activities of the World Oral and Dental Health Day
11 Mar 2024On Monday, the 4th of March 2024, the university participated in the activities of the World Oral and Dental Health Day, which was organized in coordination with the World Health Organization and the World Dental Federation. The theme of the event was “A Happy Mouth is A Happy Body”. The event was attended by Dr. Nahawand Thabet, Member of the Supreme Council of the World Dental Federation and the representative of the African continent in the council as well as members from the CDC Student Club. A booth with one LCD screen was set up on MIU campus. Pamphlets and brochures printed from WHO website were distributed to all attendees. An awareness session was held for patients visiting the Dental Clinics Complex (DCC) about oral and dental health. Toothpastes, toothbrushes, pamphlets, and brochures were distributed.
The WHO video themed “A Happy Mouth is A Happy Body” was displayed on the LCDs in the main building and in the waiting area of the Dental Clinics Complex. Questionnaires were also distributed to measure the satisfaction of participants.

Several students from different faculties expressed their satisfaction with the various activities of the World Oral Health Day Celebration. The event’s organization received the highest level of satisfaction at 93.5%, followed by satisfaction with the awareness campaign and educational materials with an average of 91%.
A total of Fifty-seven patients who visited the Dental Clinics Complex answered the questionnaire. The age range of respondents was from 8 to 76 years, with 61.4% females. 45.6% were housewives, 15.8% were blue-collars, 8.9% were white-collars, 22.8% were students and 7% were pensioners.
Figure (1) shows the average satisfaction with the various activities and general satisfaction with the celebration. The overall average patient satisfaction was 9.63/10. The event’s organization received the highest level of satisfaction at (9.51), followed by satisfaction with educational materials (9.46) and satisfaction with awareness activities with an average of 9.37.
