Hypertext Short Stories and Interactive Fiction – Al-Alsun Students’ Graduation Projects
22 Jan 2020Al-Alsun senior students presented their graduation projects on Wednesday, January 15th, 2020 about “Hypertext Short Stories and Interactive Fiction”. Dr. Mustafa Riad and Dr. Fayrouz Hassan were the members of the external examiners committee evaluating students’ work.
The project was an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Faculty of Al-Alsun & Mass Communication and the Faculty of Computer Science as students were introduced to a choice-based experience through interactive hypertext fiction as a genre of electronic literature. The main idea of the project was writing an adapted short story in the form of hypertext across several webpages, using a multi-linear or a non-linear format.
One of the main objectives of this project was to use technology in teaching literature to enhance the learning experience. It also aimed at exposing students to the postmodern applications that could enrich their skills. Through this project, students were able to experience different types of postmodern plot, create their own websites, create hyperlinks and use 3D techniques.
Dr. Riad and Dr. Hassan praised the project’s interdisciplinary nature and students’ genuine product while assuring the importance of the interdisciplinary approach in encouraging creativity.
