Dentistry Students Visit El Nahda School for Girls – El Salam City
1 Jan 2018On Thursday 14th of December 2017, MIU Community Service and Environmental Committee, in cooperation with the Student and Educational Affairs Committee, organized a field trip to El Nahda School for Girls – El Salam City, under the auspices of the Egyptian Red Crescent Society. A group of staff members, fourth year students, and nurses from the Faculty of Oral & Dental Medicine joined the trip.
The purpose of the visit was to promote dental health awareness and to improve the oral health conditions of the school students. During the visit, fourth year students examined preparatory school students (12-14 years) to fulfill one of the requirements of the Oral Medicine and Diagnosis Curriculum. The school students received cards explaining their oral health state as well as the suggested treatment to be handed to their parents. They were all invited to visit MIU Dental Clinic Complex to receive the required dental care and one of the students was dentally treated in the same afternoon of the visit.
Two forms of questionnaires were distributed: one at the beginning of the session for the school students, teachers, and administrative staff to determine their dental health care needs, and another at the end of the session to evaluate the provided program and measure their satisfaction. A third questionnaire was distributed to MIU participants as well. Educational materials and packs of tooth pastes and tooth brushes were distributed among all school students.
The school supervisors and teachers appreciated the organization of the trip, and they recommended more field trips under the umbrella of the Red Crescent.
