The Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication Visits Fatma Al-Zahraa Orphanage
29 Nov 2023In an attempt to address the United Nation’s sustainable development goals of providing quality education and reducing inequalities, the Community Service and Environmental Development Committee in the Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication organized several workshops at Fatma Al-Zahraa Orphanage in Ain Shams on Tuesday, 21st of November, 2023.
During the trip, Al-Alsun students interacted with the orphanage children by teaching them mini lessons and providing them with simple tests to check their understanding of the lessons. The activities and the testing items prepared by Al-Alsun students were designed as a requirement of the ENG 441 course. The materials presented included activities in English and Arabic teaching the importance of healthy food, the basics of hygiene, basic expressions related to jobs and education, and terms used to describe nature and animals. The materials designed were donated to the orphanage.
In addition, a group of Mass Communication students offered a drawing workshop to children ranging from 6 to 8 years old to teach them the basics of drawing and make them practice drawing animals and plants. Another group of Mass Communication students, in the Introduction to Research Methods course, distributed a survey on the attitudes of Egyptians towards water consumption to practice conducting surveys.
The students also participated with the orphans in a sports competition after which they handed the winning children gifts that they brought along to the visit.
The Faculty Community Service and Environmental Development Committee members finally donated to the orphanage the materials designed by Al-Alsun students as well as the posters designed by Mass Communication students to raise awareness about the green environment and eating healthy food.
Questionnaires were also distributed to the managers, supervisors, and those in charge of the orphans to find out their opinion regarding the services that the faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication can provide them in future visits.
