Faculty of Al-Alsun & Mass Communication Celebrates its 2nd Annual Community Service Day
15 May 2023The Community Service and Environment Development Sector of the Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication celebrated its 2nd Annual Community Service Day under the slogan, “Helping People … Changing Lives” on May 8, 2023.
In her welcome speech, Professor Laila Galal Rizk, Dean of the Faculty, emphasized encouraging and promoting volunteerism as an important step towards creating a better future for the community. She thanked the different community partners present and Faculty members for their efforts, and commended the students for engaging in community service work which would not only prepare them to become active members in their community, but would also make a difference in their career prospects.
Professor Hanan Kilani, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environment Development, highlighted , in her welcome speech, the Faculty’s community service efforts during the past year. She thanked Faculty members, students, and community partners for their contributions in activities on and off campus, emphasizing the need to continue pursuing more accomplishments and setting new community service goals to keep pace with Egypt’s Vision 2030 agenda for sustainable development.
The community service event showcased two short videos highlighting the Faculty’s community service contributions, and featuring the students’ projects and assignments that target community service activities. In addition, Dr. Noha Talaat, member of the National Council for Human Rights, Secretary of the National Alliance for Civil Development Action, Deputy Executive Director of the National Institute of Cancer, and Ambassador of the “Decent Life” initiative, gave a motivational speech about the importance of voluntary work and her personal experience in contributing to charity work. She also talked about the Decent Life initiative, its history and the many benefits of volunteering in this initiative.
Mrs. Shahinz Anwar, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Friends of the Bright Tomorrow Association for Disabilities, then introduced the attendees to her own journey in serving special needs persons and to the establishment of the Friends of the Bright TomorrowAssociation. Trophies and certificates of appreciation were distributed to honor community partners, Faculty members and students for their contributions to various community service activities.
On the sidelines of the celebration, Ms. Rasha Esmat, Head of Programs Sector at Egypt’s Society for Culture and Development, was offered some inspirational books that Al-Alsun students designed in their graduation projects to be donated to the public libraries that she supervises. The graphic books and stories were designed to empower readers to develop their personal and social skills with the aim of serving the community and the society at large.
