Activity – El-Shorouk City
The Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee organized an MIU dentistry student trip to a Shorouk school on Thursday October 22, 2015.
The committee organized a visit to El-Tabary Preparatory School in El-Shorouk City in collaboration with the Oral Medicine Department and under the umbrella of the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine. The trip was organized with the approval of the Shorouk Educational Administration. Fourth year MIU students attended the trip under the supervision of Diagnosis Department staff.
Trip activities included an awareness session to improve school student oral hygiene knowledge and behavior. The session included a presentation, posters, brochures as well as live sessions about tooth brushing techniques. Educational materials and packs of tooth paste and tooth brushes were distributed to all students.
Intra- as well as extra-oral examinations were performed by fourth year MIU students under the supervision of Oral Medicine Department staff members. Each of the school’s students received a card indicating her/his oral condition status and treatment needs (if any).
A questionnaire was administered to the school’s students, teachers, and administrative staff to determine their dental health care needs.
At the end of the session, another questionnaire was administered to the school’s students, teachers and administrative staff to evaluate the provided program and measure visit satisfaction. A questionnaire was administered to the MIU participants as well.
All the activities during the day were documented through photography.
The event was beneficial to MIU students who were exposed to the outside community and given the opportunity to apply what they had learned in the university’s dental clinic in different environments and conditions.
