A Visit to Al Ferdos Orphanage for Disabled Children
25 Jan 2022On Tuesday 11th of January 2022, MIU Community Service and Environmental Committee, in cooperation with the Internship Administration Office, organized a field trip for Faculty of Oral & Dental Medicine interns and staff members to Dar Al Ferdos Orphanage for disabled children in Nasr city.
The purpose of the visit was to promote dental health awareness about COVID-19 virus and oral health of the employees, care givers and children in the orphanage. A group of interns gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation regarding COVID-19 and how to protect the children and everyone from the virus. In addition, the interns individually presented to the care givers the proper way of brushing teeth, especially for disabled children, using simulating dental casts and toothbrushes. They were all invited to visit MIU Dental Clinic Complex to receive the required dental care free of charge. They were also offered a free transportation by MIU buses to and from MIU Dental Clinic Complex to receive the required treatment. Interns were allowed to play and take photos with the children the whole day. Toothbrushes, toothpastes, alcohol bottles and masks were given to the orphanage home as giveaways, along with 20 blankets that were purchased and given upon the orphanage administration request.
Questionnaires were distributed on the home residents to determine their dental health needs and to evaluate the provided program and measure their satisfaction. Another questionnaire was also distributed on the interns and staff members participating to evaluate the general outcome of the visit.
