A Visit to El Sondos orphanage house for disabled children
22 Feb 2024On the sideline of the celebration of the World Oral Health Day, The Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee, Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine organized a field trip for interns to El Sondos orphanage house for disabled children at the 5th settlement on Thursday 15th of February 2024. 40 male and female interns as well as staff members from the Oral Medicine and Diagnosis, and Endodontic departments joined the field trip. In addition to a group from the World Dental Federation (FDI).
The purpose of the visit was to raise awareness of the employees and caregivers regarding dental health and how to improve their oral health as well as the disabled children. A lecture prior to the trip was given by a professor from the oral medicine and diagnosis department to the interns to inform them with information they need to know about the visit. An awareness session was presented by the interns showing the importance of tooth brushing and the proper techniques for oral hygiene.
The interns examined all the children, caregivers, and employees of the orphanage house males and females under the supervision of the Oral Medicine and Diagnosis, as well as the Endodontic department’s staff members. The interns played with the children and took photos with them the whole visit. Food elements were purchased and given to the orphanage house. FDI member distributed 150 toothbrushes and toothpastes on the children, caregivers, and employees after their examination.
Questionnaires were distributed to the employees and caregivers to determine their dental health needs and to evaluate the provided program and measure their satisfaction with the visit. Another questionnaire was distributed to the interns and staff members participating to evaluate the visit and its outcome.
The satisfaction rate of the orphanage house was 100%
