MIU Celebrates World Oral Health Day 2023
29 Mar 2023In collaboration with WHO and FDI, MIU celebrated World Health Day under the theme “Be Proud of Your Mouth” on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. A booth with two LCD screens was set up on campus. The booth distributed pamphlets and brochures printed from WHO website, with the MIU logo, in addition to giveaway vouchers to all the attendees. The activities also included educating patients visiting the Dental Clinics Complex. Adults and children were asked questions about oral and dental health. The children also enjoyed a puppet show to raise oral and dental health awareness. Toothpastes, toothbrushes, pamphlets, and brochures were given to dental patients.
The WHO video themed “Be Proud of Your Mouth” was displayed on the screens beside the booth as well as on the LCDs in the main building and in the waiting area of the Dental Clinics Complex. Questionnaires were also distributed to measure the satisfaction of participants: –
1- MIU Students’ Survey
The survey was answered by 146 students from all faculties of the university. Distribution of faculties and grades is shown in Figure 1. Female students comprised 60.3% of the respondents.
Mean values for satisfaction scores are shown in Figure 2. The average score for overall satisfaction with the event was 9.41/10. The highest satisfaction score was given to organization (9.25) followed by games (9.12) while awareness sessions and educational materials were given the same score (9.04).


2- Patients’ Survey
The survey was answered by 48 patients visiting the Dental Clinics Complex (DCC). Female patients comprised 72.9% of the respondents. The mean age of respondents was 42.7 years with a minimum age of 18 years and a maximum age of 77 years. Almost three quarters of the respondents (72.9%) were housewives, 12.5% worked in blue-collar jobs, 4.2% worked in white-collar jobs, 4.2% were students and 6.3% were retired.
Mean values for satisfaction scores are shown in Figure 3. The average score for overall satisfaction with the event was 9.75/10. The highest satisfaction score was given to awareness sessions (9.62) followed by organization (9.6) while satisfaction with educational materials scored (9.53).
